No its not conclusive fact - however given what the local flowfield (might be easier for you to consider it without any exhaust) would be at low speeds, high speeds and the evidence of where there is heat - there are very few alternative explanations.

But you can clearly see the exhaust has been traveling along the edge of the sidepods towards the inside of the rear tyre.
You could also come to the conclusion that the exhaust has just been going everywhere, noted by the burning basically everywhere lol.
Right but Kilcoo is saying it does not go anywhere close to the rear tyre and in the picture I think it's clear at some point it travels that direction. The true intended direction of the flow will come out soon enough.

I think it travels down the 'corner' of the ramp - but that is still significantly inboard of the rear tyre - more or less inboard the inside edge of those brake 'ducts'.

Over time, we'll see more evidence of the heat damage around the area. Hopefully even Australia itself will be enough. [Assuming the F1 photographers have a rare weekend of usefulness instead of photographing f**king helmet paint jobs or something similarly irrelevant!]
I'll happily wager now that there will be none around that strake upstream the rear tyre.
All damage will be accumulated some way inboard of that.

I said on the INSIDE of the tyre.
Ignore red circle and look at the huge vertical strake inside the rear tyre that wasn't there last year. See yellow circle

I'm just going to throw this out there, because I know some of you engineer-types sometimes miss the forest for all the trees. And that's ok; that's why it's so helpful to have people like me around (occasionally, but probably not nearly as often as I'd like to think).
The bodywork regulations for this part of the car demand that, unless you want to outfit your car with Ferrari-style pointless-ducts, any outboard exhaust solution must be mounted more forward and, in relation to the reference plane, much higher than would be the case for an inboard solution. That's the only way to satisfy both the "continuous curve" and minimum radius requirements.
It makes no sense to adopt the Red Bull layout if the intent is to exit the exhaust down the center of the car. If that's the goal, a layout that's farther aft and more inboard is far more effective and is just as legal. No, Red Bull had something else in mind when they went through all the trouble to design and implement their current layout.

Are you delusional? Who gives a crap what Mercedes & Renault had. I said it was new for the RB8. You think they just decided to put it there for no reason?? From the designer that does nothing for no unexplained reason. And you still maintain it has nothing to do with the exhaust?
And the merc & renault are far smaller under different regs

The strake you highlight is way inboard from the wheels - virtually under the gearbox!
I've been dealing with the tyre, the area around the tyre and disagreeing with the notion they are sending the exhaust at the tyre this whole discussion - a strake under the gearbox has not really been on my radar!!!
