Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

IIRC Seb's is actually the Barca setup - Mark the Melbourne setup. I remember distinctly Mark's iteration was debuted in Melbourne.

Mark FP1 Mark has the solution used last in Barcelona test I believe. Sky said they were running two different variations.

other way around.
Seb is running Barca spec
Mark is running Melbourne spec

I wonder if they still aren't sure about which one is better? Or if it is actually working as intended. If they keep switching and trying to get it to work, I feel they may fall behind Mclaren more because they will have wasted so much time on it.

But that's exactly what I want, so I'm not complaining

Charlie Whiting said RBR's engine mapping is legal. Brawn said they still heared weird noises just as last year from Renault's engine.

Sorry to interject.

I now think the "letterbox" feeds a front wing f-duct. That is all.

(My apologies if that's already been postulated.)

I doubt that if they had a f-wing thingie, they would be as vocal about it as they are now...

Why?

EDIT: Never mind. Now I understand what you meant.

That said, there's more than one way to skin a cat. DRS is not the only way to enable an f-duct within the rules.

Yes but DRS allows you to switch the front wing stall on and off, thats the trick.

Isn't it? What other proposals do you have?

I don't get that. They've been blowing hot and cold with that camera since 2010. Starting Silvy 2010 in that infamous front wing debacle - then they kept switching back and forth with it.

The slot underneath the nose could be a switch that's activated when the volume of air passing through it is increased to the point that it gets choked. The choked inlet takes the place of the 2010 method of drivers using a hand/knee/etc to activate the system.

That would cause it to trigger in a high speed corner, so wouldn't work properly.
