Note:
1- Pit in and out laps are excluded from lap counts and averages.
2- Button, Hamilton, Schumacher, Rosberg, Grosjean, Raikkonen & Hulkenberg - Only 1 Last Stint Included.
3- Vettel, Webbber, Alonso, Perez & Maldonado - Last 2 Stints Included.
Why do you count in 2 stint that included pitstops and recalibrations for some drivers - it makes the list virtually useless for the sake of comparing potential race pace.

E.g Alonso's "2 stints" includes somekind of a 6 lap run plus a 3 lap quali run - and this is to be compared with someone who run a 15 laps straight run?

Quali:
Hamilton, button, rosberg

Race:
Button, Hamilton, (3rd - don't know)

I suspect a mercedes will be in third in quali, I think those suggesting they could get first are overestimating the car. I actually think that lotus will be next, and the red bulls might be down in 7th and 8th.

For the race though I see the Red bulls coming back up the field and the Mercedes dropping places as they lose the advantage of their DRS. So 3rd imo is likely to be either of one of the two lotus cars, or seb in the red bull. I just can see the Mercs holding 3rd until the race end.

Ferrari I think will be a long way of in this race, although apparently their tyres are looking much better this race from free practice, but they may only have run on heavier fuel, so who knows.

What are your times based on ? becasue Hamilton was doing 1:38's in both FP1 & FP2
I believe MGPW03 is comparing race pace with heavy fuel load, rather then low fuel flying lap.
Exactly and thanks CHT for clarifying on my behalf.

After the disappointment of Australian GP, there has been so much speculation about lack of pace of Mercedes. After seeing long runs at the end of 2nd session, I was curious to see how things looked so I downloaded the lap chart from FIA. But the way data was presented, it was very difficult to compare so I decided to draw this table.I have been silently following this forum since Barcelona tests and mainly interested in Mercedes related threads. As I have gained insight from knowledgeable posts on this forum so i thought I could share something interesting.
chepoi wrote:if Lewis doing 1:44.790... how come lewis is the fastest in FP1 & FP2? biased? and i think we have to scrapped this data. not enough data.

maybe the correct word from this so called data is "Red Bull is better than Mclaren"
The table only includes lap times from the end of practice session 2 when they were doing long runs. I am not trying to suggest anything either way. If anything it suggests that my favorite team MGP is slower than midfield. Should it be a dry race, then I can look back at it in retrospect and perhaps then it could be more useful.

Blackout wrote:You can't include the 1:48 and 1:46 laps in the average...
Some of the laps were obviously one-offs but in others it was tight so it was difficult and I did not want to distort the original data. Thanks to Mestrades for linear regression lines because linear regression is widely used for trend analysis. Although I must say, Mestrades, you have been trying to spread a lot of disappointment with regard to Mercedes. I don't want to get involved in any debate but I can tell you even if Mercedes is the worst team on the grid they would still be my favorite. The only thing that could disappoint me is if they have been deliberately telling lies but I have no reason to infer that they are doing so.

To be honest, it is useless in a way because fuel loads and tyre info is not available and there could be even more variables. :)
I included because lap times were similar before and after the stop. My assumption being that they didn't change anything on the car bar tweaking setup.

Are you guys really going to argue about an analysis that is entirely based on a wiild guess of fuel loads? What, are we back in testing again?
