In the last 3 years Ferrari have brought a different concept into the new year. If you look at the fastest cars over the past 2 years, the Red Bulls and McLarens ( and going further back into history), they have all been evolutions, where the strengths and weaknesses are known, and refined. look at golden Schumacher years. All those cars were a refinement of a base concept. The F1-2000 bore its lineage the F-399.

The 2009 Ferrari wasn't a bad car, but Ferrari went a bit far in optimising F10 for the double diffuser. the last 2 cars are poles apart, with no real continuity. Now, with no data that you can correlate from year to year ( and with new technical staff) you can't really see where you went wrong.....

As usual, in the second half of the season, the red cars will be back at the front, but the titles will be long lost by then...

You can't deem it as a lost cause until we finally have an answer to where they are heading. Ferrari still has a good enough chance to fight for the WDC, if their Mugello upgrades work properly, which is merely a month away from now.

After two races, Ferrari is still in a much better position in the championship table compared to what we all expected. They were in damage limitation mode and so far they have done the maximum. If by the Spanish GP, they manage to gain another 5 tenths or so (a bit optimistic but may be possible if their upgrades for the next 3 races work as expected), then they can well be back in the top league. If not, then you can probably come back and say, "I told you so".

Yes there was a lot. It was great. Of course many different people asked the same questions over & over, but it was a good session. I hope they do more of throughout the season.

There was one other question missed, and it's below:

any plans to replicate the Mercedes F-duct?

This is not a priority at all. At the moment we've other priorities

+1

I think the biggest asset to Ferrari at the moment is a man called Alonso. You give him improvements to the car and he'll try and drag it into sixth place if not the top five. If he manages to keep the leaders in sight and Ferrari manage to give him a competetive car soon Ferrari might still have a good chance.

Also it helps that Red Bull is not dominating this year. With the race winners being different people so far the points are distributed more evenly. No 1-2's so far. :)

To be fair 1-2's have been rare last year too. I think we had more in 2009 and 2010. 2009 there were quite a few Brawn 1-2 results and quite a few Red Bull ones. I think they had 4 1-2's each. Then in 2010 we had 2 Ferrari 1-2's, 3 McLaren 1-2's, and 4 Red Bull 1-2s. THere were 4 McLaren and 4 Ferrari 1-2's in 2007 too.

You are right. But to be fair if things had gone to plan the McLarens could easily have had 1-2 in the first two races. They certainly had the better cars. But they have been a tad unlucky.

I don't think a 1-2 was very guaranteed in Malaysia - but Australia, most certainly.

Well I suppose. Malaysia was a lottery. It could have been anybody's race.

Asking for .200 from updates is really asking a lot. I suspect Ferrari still haven't got a firm grasp on what their car is doing and what affects it thus making any updates a shot in the dark. They need a few more dry races to understand their car better, and then they can impliment updates which might bear fruit.
