Happened already.
I've been told this GP has been canceled already and that it will be announced to the public some time next week. The teams are already aware of the canceled GP of course. Time will tell if this source is right, but they're quite credible. I think it's the right thing to do & shouldn't have been put on the schedule in the first place. Or at a minimum should've been moved towards the end of the year.

I wonder if this might be a boon for some teams to get their cars in order.
So we'll have one race in seven weeks - what is this, a 1960's World Championship? Why did they have to schedule the races like this - they must have known that this was a likely scenario, so this really annoys me.

When it was scheduled they probably had all intentions of going ahead of it. Even now the Bahrain organisers must be saying they'll provide top security. Nobody can predict such things.
Also lives could be at stake here. Its not worth risking just to fill in a big gap.
Though I was wondering if they could arrange another race on a short notice or even schedule some more testing or something. Is that possible or even a good idea?
Its an internal affair, and one that seems relatively subdued compared to the other stuff thats been happening nearby as of late. At the moment, US involvement would just be tossing fuel on the fire without accomplishing anything useful.

Not a penny, The French gvmt would be coming out of pocket on this one, while Bernie pocketed the profits

Had to blink twice upon seeing this thread in the topic list. For a while there I thought after all the waiting, somehow I managed to completely miss Shanghai.

A cup race that doesn't count towards the championship standings in a circuit not included this season would be nice. Probably near-impossible to arrange something like that on short notice, though.
Better have a HUGE purse, if you expect teams to spend the silly amunts of money they have to spend to race for a weekend.Otherwise, with no points on offer, the teams would just laugh in Bernie's face.

They shouldn't race in Bahrain and they won't schedule any other races as the venues would have to pay a race fee (I think?) for it to be fair, and no venue would do that if there was no time to sell tickets. If they were to somehow organise another race, there would be no reason to make it a non-championship race, so the teams would have to compete.
Is there a provision to shift some dates of the races up to fill the gap? Then they could schedule another race somewere else later down the year and have time to promote it.
But I suppose the tickets must have been sold for the next few races already. It would be a nightmare to shift the dates.
I was looking forward to twenty races this year. Oh well...
