Force India VJM05

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It creates a low pressure area to pull the exhaust steam in tight to the body to follow that channel, does appear to be blowing the beam wing.

They've probably missed a trick with the exhaust though. Scarbs even said it's more or less the 'neutral' position.

When some of the other teams upgraded their exhausts at the last test and for the race, their pace dramatically dropped from one of the fastest teams to one of the slowest, and Sauber went from not impressing too much to being very impressive with their new exhausts. I think they are behind Williams, Sauber and Toro Rosso by a reasonable margin now.

The car looks good elsewhere, but those exhausts are gonna kill them this season. Still probably one of the most important areas of the car, and FI just reverted back to 2010/2009 exhausts which, in all likelihood...was never gonna be the best solution.

I predict a 9th in the WCC for them this year, maybe 8th with some lucky results.

I initial thought they were going to change the positioning of the exhaust after the third test. Looking at car, I think they can slope the side pods at the rear downard to direct the exhaust towards the diffuser. It appears the beam-wing exhaust path is not the best.

They would have to adopt mclaren style exhaust bulges. It's doable and the clock is ticking. But why should it hurt them so much. Lotus are doing the same as FI and are much faster.

Would they be better served staying with their current exhaust with an eye on next year, if as stated by the FIA, they want all the exhausts to function like this system next year?

New RW endplate extensions for Force India. The look a lot like those on the McLaren.

is it me, or is that a "sandpaper" surface finish on the endplates?

I think it's just a rapidly produced part that's been sanded down by hand giving that appearance. We see this a fair bit up and down the pitlane, usually on the smaller detail parts.
