Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Protests aren't exactly time/resource-consuming endeavors. This is all just part of the game.

What is so political about disagreeing with an official's interpretation and trying to get another view from a different official?
I don't know how it's happening, but more and more, I'm beginning to find that I actually agree with you.

Oh, my rumor is that FIA will approve it. For the third consecutive time.
I really can't understand why they're forcing FIA this way, after (banned) reactive suspensions this is the best innovation seen so far this season.
More than political, it's starting to look like a kid game...
If we take the Lotus name affair, maybe they like that kind of game.

These f-duct protests are pissing me off. It's a couple of holes at the back, where the rules don't prevent them and a couple of holes at the front, again which the rules allow and a couple of internal pipes!

Try telling that to Lotus. The main focus for Lotus is that it's "driver activated" and thus not allowed. But we had this discussion already. Some people say its active, some not, it's a 'grey area', but if the FIA is still straight on this, i don't think the fw f-duct gets banned for this season.

The FIA would find it hard too ban on grounds of being driver activated.
They would need toban 2ndary effects of devices and then specify the secondary effects.
This would need to include, Engine, suspenion, Chassis, tyres. In short they would need to ban innovation completely which will push the manufacturers away again.

The best part of theMerc FWFD, is that theres no illegal moving parts. the driver activated arguement is weak at best and really just shows poorsportmanship.
Sure there nothing wrong in protesting, but that protest needs to be placed in context of what has been allowed and already scrutinised.

The Lotus front suspension was banned on grounds of safety.
The FIA has made a few mistakes in the past (mass dampers) but they'd look like right fools if they banned the FWFD.

Hi guys i wonder if someone could explain this to me?

""With the exception of the parts necessary for the adjustment described in Article 3.18, any car system, device or procedure which uses driver movement as a means of altering the aerodynamic characteristics of the car is prohibited."

So does that include the front wheels, because the primary task is to steer and the secondary affect is aero.
With the double drs surely the primary task is to stall the rear wing, the secondary affect is on the front wing.
I know the first one is accidental and the second one is purposely designed but i really don't get the difference, they're both driver activated ( and both via the steering wheel come to think of it!).
If Lotus' protest is upheld what are the likely consequences, what will Mercedes through back at Lotus do you think? What are the repercussions throughout the pit lane?
Apologies if this has been discussed but 138 pages is a bit much for me.

This is MGP, don't wait for updates. Only update is from Rosberg, that tyre issue is not resolved.

I think that this is now out of the way and maybe opening for new development on the SDRS!

How about a middle pilar with a whole in it to feed the defuser ?

I highly doubt they will mve on. ever since crasgate they loom for opportunities to bring other teams down to their level. Pretty poor corporate culture they have

well , I find it very clear to how Mr Brawn ansered the 5 Questions . (reference : http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/98738 )

Very interesting read !
Especialy about the "moving part" of the "device" .
And then referring to "other" teams .. to already warn them off

He -Brawn- provided examples of teams making modifications to other parts of cars to take advantage of the different airflow resulting when DRS is activated.
