Ferrari F2012

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

New Rear wing, flow vis Ejected via Rear cooling duct, looks similar to last years banned wing...however instead of the one cut/groove there is two!
Looks like they were about to change sidepods/engine cover too. Interesting new RW. The double V-Groove. Very interesting. They were taking lots of pictures of that RW.
Alonso was standing at the front of the car watching them do their "Job".

I'm too keen to find out more going to speak to a mate of mine. PM you later if I find out something new/interesting.

If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

Add to the list if you come across anything suspicious. 8)
Ferrari confirmed there have been no changes to the rear suspension. No cooling changes either.

Wild speculation: the longer chord of the flap being trialed on Ferrari's new rear wing should make it produce more downforce, but at the expense of DRS efficiency.

Daffy Duct for Ferrari perhaps?

EDIT: Ok, does the flap have a longer chord, or am I just seeing things? SPEED's online picture quality leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm intrigued by the slot in the rear, seems interesting.

The exhaust was pointed in the direction of that if I'm right but that just might(i hope), create some blown diffuser effect down the rear, because the diffuser is in that area i think.

Would that slot be around the starter hole?

Can you run again the CFD with a minor modification? As far as I understand, the air hitting the winglets is not clean. So, let's see if they clean that air...

Unfortunately your simulations are wrong as they assume a horizontal local flow. The local flow will not be horizontal.

It's a longer chord length but nothing like the McLaren long chord wing from last year or the new Red Bull rear wing.

The longer chord does reduce the DRS effect a little bit but in return will give slightly more down force, in theory.

The flow is pretty close to horizontal. No?
