If Ferrari does indeed modify its original exhaust solution, as they've said is their intention, I think part of the fix will be a slot in the floor ahead of the rear wheel. I won't call the problem tire squirt, because I've seen that defined several ways, but one of the problems of an open-wheel car is flow distortion. Air flow around spinning wheels is very unstable; for all intents and purposes, it does as it pleases. In fact, stabilizing that flow was the reason behind wheel fairings.
I've got to imagine that such distortion would annihilate most efforts to seal off the diffuser with weakened exhaust. The vortex from a floor slot should complement the effect of the exhaust in that area.
Yeah I think the Piola drawings showing exhaust gasses getting blown into the slot ahead of the rear tyre isn't really accurate.
The reason for the slot ahead of the rear tyre minimize vorticies produced by a spinning tyre. The Sauber solution was questioned by Red Bull & other teams in Malaysia when it was first spotted. Needless to say, RB showed up to China with a similar solution.
Ferrari ran something similar in pre-season testing when they tested the newest floor & diffuser. Below is a picture and just ahead of the rear tyre is 3 slots which should accomplish basically the same thing as the Sauber/RB slot.
Like you, I expect the upgraded F2012 to incorporate this solution. I'm sure they want to get that RB style floor/diffuser working if at all possible. I'm also thinking we might see a revised nose. I think a little less abrupt than the current one and will probably also use the Sauber Nose-Duct solution as well.
