What do you think of the prospect of a USGP 2012 at Austin Texas

Good thinking. Place has good infra structure and nice climate in winter.

Not good as it has no motor sport tradition in the US.

Originally the berm was to go all the way around from 15-19, only interrupted by grandstands. Now one of the best viewing lines will by chopped out by the tower.
Also of note, there appears to be lumber stacked around the farthest team suite slab, so it looks like we'll have real buildings back there after all.
Or there'll be one team building as I said. The westernmost slab is the one I thought would be built up, but if I'm wrong, that's great. I want those buildings to be built as per the original plan.

They're also charging 2-3 times more for grandstand seating than CotA.

So...

Seriously, there must be some mistake with this pricing.

Montreal 2012 3-day GA is $123 from the track & TicketCity is charging $221.

USGP 3-day is $x from the track & TicketCity is charging $729.

Roughly halve the total, so call it $350. Theoretically.

Sounds about right for a room designed by people with money for people with money to impress other people with money.

Do those people shop online?

Everyone shops online.

I'm not totally familiar with TicketCity, but it seems like while they are reps for certain venues, for others they are simply a broker. So you can read their prices whichever way you want. They could be an indication of what they think demand will really be - in that case, just wow. Or they could be a reflection of their standard markup on what they've paid/think they will pay. Or it could be PSL holders hoping to make a buck. In any case, you'd expect the prices to fluctuate up until the race itself, and will probably see a big correction once CotA starts selling tickets.

Of course, you can interpret ticket prices in general however you want. Are they low? Then geez, CotA must be desperate. Are they high? Idiots. They'll never sell them at those prices.

You only know how well they matched the market when you see the grandstands on race day. I don't know how many times that needs to be said, but apparently it isn't sinking in.

In general, though - higher prices are a good omen for the race because they show that at least the market research says that demand is high. We might not like them, but life's full of things we don't like.

Like directly from CotA. I'm just wondering what the naysayers are going to cling to whenever final pricing is revealed to be directly in line with Canada. Tickets may be slightly more expensive what with it being a brand new facility rather than a 34 year old circuit, but anyone surprised or offended by that probably didn't give a rat's ass about the race to begin with and only wants another reason to feign former interest.

Nice pictures, but then I am partial, since those are mine :P

Our entire sales related podcast is available for your pleasure.

We also have a photographic lap of the track. One of the very few that have been allowed such access.
