Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I will post further on this subject, But I feel there is a direct correlation between the W03's lack of high speed downforce, and its tyre issues.
High degradation due to the tyres working harder in these areas.

A monkey seat is a cheap way to get it, so lets hope that pays dividends.
More could have been done.

Hopefully.

They've been real quiet, let's hope they're developing something major; to help with the tyre deg.

More major than new gearbox and probably new rear suspension? It is clear for me than exhaust solution it's not important(all teams going for neutral one have succeeded - Ferrari, Williams) . DDRS was killed by the tyres.

I think it's clear that their Mugello testing efforts were more geared towards their Monaco arrangement than their Spain arrangement. They seem to be quietly confident about their chances yet they can't be too confident considering Michael is stuck with a 5 place penalty, which is just sad. Regardless, the car will do very well at Spa and if Michael has a real shot at winning anywhere, it's at Spa. Anyway, their new front wing with the joined second and third elements is going to be more friendly to a mechanical grip setup than anything else as it does not flow nearly as much in the direction of the sidepod bare boards by way of the suspension as the previous iteration.

given the car could be strong in qualy ,in anideal world schumacher could still start in top 10 or go for something really ambitious in terms of strategy.
the car is good in traction and easy to drive for Schumacher .

Ferraripilot - new front wing?

Is there a pic of this? I normally try to spot this kind of thing, but maybe I missed it when it was tested?

[edit: sorry just noticed it.. Interesting feature, I don't think any other team does this right? most other teams have their top element end in a sharp point?]

Correct. This is to direct air through the front suspension and to the undercut of the front area of the sidepod. Merc appear to be wanting that air for their inner air of the front wing now where we normally see a split. I would think this should really help with the bite on the front end.

oooh la la

Looks like now that everyone knows how they run the DDRS, there is no point in hiding it.

Any pictures of extra wing flappys or doo-dads?

And the matching nipple tassels at the rear do more to confirm (if it were needed) those pipes ahead of the beam wing are DDRS.
