Attachment of nose assembly to chassis

Post

I'm new to the site and hope I've posted this question in the right place :?
I'm fascinated by all aspects of F1 but the burning question I've not yet been able to answer is what type of fasteners do the teams use to secure the nose assembly onto the chassis?
I suspect there are 2 sorts at work:
1) male/female locating pins/buckets and
2) quick-release load-bearing fasteners

Can anyone shed any light on how these bits work and where they're sourced from?

Thanks in anticipation,
Clive

Welcome to the forum mate. Although I'm not 100% sure, they look to me like the nosecone hooks in at the top and is fastened by something similar to a dzus fastener on the bottom. I know most F3 cars use this so F1 cars probably use a variant on the theme.

Try Google for Dzus fasteners.

Dzus fasteners can be a real pain in the ass. I assume F3 has the alignment down though. I dunno how I'd feel about directing all the load from the wing and nose assembly through dzus's..
Grip is a four letter word. All opinions are my own and not those of current or previous employers.

No there are not Dzus fasteners. th enose is secured by an eccentric cam securign on a notched pin. The cam tends to be in the monocoque now days. some teams now only use two, while the norm was four. The pin is attached to the nose cone and has a arc cut out of it, as the eccentri cam is turned it tightens on the pin, pullign the nose tight to the tub and locking to prevent it loosening.

centre. it uses 4 cams located in the chassis with 4 pins on the nose cone.

The mechanism is very similar to the way that do-it-yourself desks are often attached at the joints (desks from office depot, stuff from Ikea). As described by others above, basically there is a long bolt extending from the nose cone (at least one on each side). The end of the bolt is shaped such that once it is fully engaged in the front of the monocoque, it is tightened and pulled in via a simple allen wrench on the side of the monocoque.
