hopefully the new exhaust is not really an issue; but for whatever reason it looks that it has a part in the accentuated tire degradation we've seen lately, i hope they'll refine the design and make it work betterbhallg2k wrote:It's not at all out of the realm of possibility that the F2012's new exhaust had an adverse on tire degradation. what accentuated tyre degradation? I haven't noticed anything to be honest.scuderiaF2012 wrote:the accentuated tire degradation we've seen lately
well, it's been worse then the other ONE stoppers; grojean and perezf1316 wrote:The Ferrari still had better, or lesser, tyre deg than the McClaren and the Red Bull, so I don't think it was a case of the exhaust being detrimental to the tyres - relative to their competitors with similar layouts.
It may be that temperatures in that area are now higher and they may contribure to a shorter tyre life, but, as has already been pointed out, they had sufficient data from Massa's car to know the tyres wouldn't last that long - and, indeed, data from his new set to see the benefits that a stop would have yielded.
This article makes this point better than I can, although I had already noticed Massa's fastest lap amid Hamilton's charge:

It's not exhaust. It's setup choices. You can setup the car for a fast warm up of tyres for qualifying or to last more in race, you can't have both. Lotus is able to make tyres last longer but has some trouble to get them to operating temperature (and probably is more sensitive to track temperature). I suspect that Lotus will have more trouble with harder compounds.scuderiaF2012 wrote: well, it's been worse then the other ONE stoppers; grojean and perez
if we had managed to last our tires as WELL as their cars' did, then who knows, we might have came in SECOND without having to change tires like Vettel did.
i'm not saying the NEW exhaust might have accelerated the tire wear, but it is a possibility....it's just an educated couch guess
Could be.bhallg2k wrote:It's not at all out of the realm of possibility that the F2012's new exhaust had an adverse on tire degradation. In fact, that was one of the reasons why the original Acer ducts were so bad; they literally cooked the tires, which sped up their degradation.
