Flat bottoms are not dangerous. F1 cars have flat bottoms now and are safe. What they should eliminate are the downforce tunnels aft of the rear axle.

They are flat bottom with a protruding wear plank which is a little different to a tunneled bottom and a true flat bottom such as the infamous 1994 cars.

As stated the FIA have done their homework and worked out that planks eliminate the problem, whereas older cars were notoriouse for sudden;y getting airbourne.

The Mercedes CLK GTR is an closed top car and more likely to blow over than an open top, open wheeler car as a F 1 car.

Don't believe everything you read, that article looks a little fishy to me, might be true though. Have you ever seen the Christian Fitipaldi flip at Monza (92 I think)? Imagine that happening at the end of the straight at spa. game over.

OK, OK boys (and girl) I know it's Saturday night and i feel like a total loser because i'm talking F1 on the internet (although last weekend I was out partying with models :) but let's get back on topic here.
The F1 scene is in a downward spiral and Bernie and Max aren't doing a thing about it. Could they be doing this on purpose? It almost seems like it, I don't know what motive they have but all these new proposals are ridiculous and I don't think there is on person in this forum who would disagree with me.
The worst of this is, is that, even though i'm disgusted with F1 right now, two weeks from now I'll be getting up bleary eyed at 7 am to watch the GRAND PRIX!!

Not to mention Mario Andretti at Indy in '03 or '04 I think. And IIRC both Villeneuve and Zonta did barrel roll at Eau Rouge in '99. Thankfully, both were fine.

It's totally different when they (f1 cars) touch wheels. That causes the flip, not aerodynamic design. I don't see why it would be 'game over'. We've seen some very big accidents in the last few years that have proven the tubs are mighty strong.

Once an open wheeler gets its nose up it is not as likely to flip over as a closed wheel prototype car (see Ralf Melbourne 03). There's nothing really fishy about that article, it has been written by a reputable source.

I understand you. I used to party with models, too, and they beat the thing out of me... look at the male models: the girls are the same thing.
