it was faster only, because others made the mistakes in q3, hamilton two or three lock ups, grosjean slide,... i still think grosjean have fastest car in Valencia, but silly little mistakes differ champion from rookie, and with so much difference between cars, even if they even, vettel win. also you must take into account that vettel is excellent qualifing driver, maybe the best of all drivers in grid, and that this is his track. :)
So vettel was faster only becuase he drove the best lap in q3. Fancy that, a champion driver making less mistakes

YUP! his best advantage is driving one lap qualy. but tommorow he will have 2 lotus driver and hamilton on his tail, he will need to drive not one, but 60 laps like this one, and we know what happend in Canada when you driving whole race in maxium. tyers will not hold whole race. it's shame

I am a long time lurker, first time poster. Love the input of you guys.

I am fond of figures and number, however, the only thing I miss on every site are the number of used tires and number of spare tires per driver.

In order to have a better understanding of potential strategies tomorrow it would be of interest to address the tire usage per driver.

What do you guys think of making a scheme of tires used per session starting from today? Let me know what you guys think of this idea.

I think the only real chance Ferrari has to get good points tomorrow is a well timed safety car of course, but on a more serious note is to start on Primes and go longer than the others then bolt on the options and set good consistent times. I'm worried about the start though. P8-13th is usually where all the isht happens at the start. Will be an interesting race nonetheless.

seems that rosberg did the sector slower than hamilton on another lap ....perhaps HE should get a penalty

It's okay, Igor is in the top 3, so it'll be right at the front this time.

 True, I'm still worried though. The big question is will Seb take off like he's known for and lead the entire race. I can't recall their pace during race sim in FP and how good or not they were on the tyres. I hope it's not a boring race.

Edit: On the Lewis possible penalty/no penalty issue:

I'd tell Rosberg that karma is a B**ch... Lewis got him back for running him off the track in Bahrain.. =D>

Even though the racing has been really good these past couple of years, every time Vettel gets pole I just sigh and hope that it won't be a repeat of 2011.

On a lighter note, qualifying is so much more exciting now!

How can anyone call the top 13 or so separated by less than 1/2 sec bs?? I mean come on. What do you want? Last year? Good drivers not being able to show their talent b/c they aren't in a top 3 team? Jesus. Seriously. This is fantastic racing. But I guess I'm not a true f1 fan and have only been watch since 2000 according to some here. Give me a freeking break.

Anyway...

Wow. Seb is better than I think most realize - including me. I always thought last year it was just the car. Not anymore. He's consistently proving he has silly speed. He just pulled nearly 4 tenths from a field that most couldn't separate from the guy behind by a tenth. Even ham with his great quali talent was barely able to squeeze out a front row start.

Ferrari *FAIL*. I'm glad I'm not at the Ferrari  debrief table tonight. Luca will bring the 3" hole saw and commence drilling. That guy was spitting nails. Really sad to see them drop back. Maybe Alonso will have good race pace and at least take some points. Peace out Massa.

Redbull. Wow. Just a drinks company eh Lewis? Gotta hand it to Newey again. He's out developing "dedicated, thoroughbred racing teams", again. Well done. Credit where credit is due.

Really happy Williams is at least becoming competitive at times. It's fantastic to see them near the front.

Force India in Q3?!? Incredible!

I think Schumacher may be done I'm really sorry to say. Simply running out of excuses. Does anyone have video of when Rosberg was supposedly impeded by Lewis? I didn't see that. When did it happen--during quali?

...
vettel is in the same position as he was in the last race in canada.
he had 0.3 sec advantage in qualy and ended behind ferrari and mclaren in race pace.
and don't tell me that your enthusiasm about newey came from his exhaust ''please God make it work this time'' system version 5.
