What do you think of the prospect of a USGP 2012 at Austin Texas

Good thinking. Place has good infra structure and nice climate in winter.

Not good as it has no motor sport tradition in the US.

HS

Can you get some close up pics of the track side drains that are being installed (ones that are stacked by the tarmac).

I'll see what we can do, but the "good" camera is down and all my photos lately have been of the cellphone variety. My new Evo LTE does a fantastic job as long as I don't zoom. Once I use the digital zoom, all bets are off.

AutoWeek's Steven Cole Smith:

Winterbottom in Austin tomorrow for big V8 Supercars announcement tomorrow at COTA? Race date? Jack Daniels to sponsor race?

Anyone know what's going on here with the sloped concrete?

Image

You can see it here too - it runs right down the middle of pit lane...

My entirely uneducated guess would be components of some kind of drainage. But I have no clue...

Seriously, that image mystifies me, are those guys erecting a wall or xcavating a quarry?

But hey, perhaps this is what being below the Mason-Dixon line was really all about?

the sloped concrete in the pitlane is for drainage, it will be hidden, it is being done like that to maximize water runoff and undegrround drains....the stone wall...I have no clue yet

I'm sorry, their Michellangellian approach didn't seep through at first, but now that you mention it.
