The regs mandate the suspension arms must have an inclination of 5°. The scrutineers closely checked(right angle) the RB8's rear suspension and it was on the very limit. It did pass but was at the maximum allowable. RB is pushing everything to the limit. How it should be in F1, IMHO.Huntresa wrote:http://totalf1.com/full_story/view/4213 ... ncia_race/
I would think that you would need to open the 'all' the valves to reduce pumping losses.Owen.C93 wrote:That is at low RPM/low throttle parts. Shutting down some cylinders means less pumping losses in the engine. That's the only reason I can think of.
Of coarse we have been making note of the deceleration sound as different, but did anyone note the sound out of the corner beginning different? Would an engine accelerating on four cylinders sound different?Crucial_Xtreme wrote:Pretty sure they're cutting the cylinders to control torque in said low speed turns/hairpins etc, a place where the RB has seemed to dominate in the past few years. I would suppose it helps on fuel consumption as well.
What happen if you send a low amount of fuel and light the spark when the cylinder is at maximum expansion ? I think you get no torque but a lot of gas to blow the diffuser....hardingfv32 wrote:I would think that you would need to open the 'all' the valves to reduce pumping losses.Owen.C93 wrote:That is at low RPM/low throttle parts. No the pumping losses are from a closed throttle that stops air entering the cylinder easily. Opening the valves would make a bit of a mess.hardingfv32 wrote:I would think that you would need to open the 'all' the valves to reduce pumping losses.Owen.C93 wrote:That is at low RPM/low throttle parts. It was never really that fast.PABLOEING wrote:Everypeople think that the new evolution in the RB8 is the new double floor......but the Lotus was extremly fast in valencia like the RB8.......i think that the secret is in the engine.....Red bull show the double floor , this is not normal. If is a secret you can show this piece in the FP1.......The Renault engines is the master key.The FIA must do someting.
Wow that pic in that article--that upper wishbone looks more than 5 degrees. What are the advantages, mechanically and aerodynamically speaking, to running such a sharp upward sloped wishbone?Crucial_Xtreme wrote:The regs mandate the suspension arms must have an inclination of 5°. It changes the camber and how they're able to adjust it and also allowed them to tweak the driveshaft and it's cowling for aero purposes.Chuckjr wrote: Wow that pic in that article--that upper wishbone looks more than 5 degrees.
