drawing an f1 car probly should not be your first cad project it would be a combention of sweeps extrudes lofts lots of operations. you would also have to have alot of planes added

then there is no right way to do it just what works best for you

i might be able to come up with a model for you to work on

Slim Jim.. you must be the James from CFDesign I talked to in Detroit. Looks like a tight package. We'll see if its in the budget this year.. at the moment things are a bit shakey.

Found out the University double charged us for our $5700 travel expenses. Was exciting getting an email from the financial people asking how we were going to cover a $6000 deficeit

"...WHAT?!"

Flynfrog...yeah we may have. I had a LOT of beer there. The '06 faculty advisor covered the whole team, all volunteers, and all alumni at the bar. It was rediculous. If you remember how many people VT brought along...you can imagine the financial damages that caused. Tech paid for the meal there and that bill was well over 5 Gs...

Jersey...yeah it's me. Shoot me an email and we'll see if we can work something out. I'm the Formula liason and I want as many students using this stuff as possible. Seriously, every school should have some CFD as part of the curriculum for fluid mechanics. And I'm not talking about Fluent or StarCD...I mean something that engineers can actually use :D

Good luck on your car this year. I can't stress this enough:

Whatever fancy ideas people have, shoot them all down. Lightness should be your number one design goal. I'm tired of seeing 500+ pound cars that I can run faster than. :D

Hit me up...

Yup. That pretty much goes without saying. Our '06 team had problems all year (who doesn't?) and they had VERY little driving time up to competition. So little time, in fact, that they weren't able to troubleshoot a few loose electrical connections. They ended up not finishing the endurance because an alternator wire had worked itself loose. Thats the type of stuff you figure out on your third or fourth testing day.

While my team, '05, had a boatload of problems, we were still able to get the car on the ground and drive the crap out of it for a solid month before competition. We were even a first year monococque. I can't tell you how many setbacks that caused. If I had to do it all over again, I would build the car to mimic a shifter kart as much as possible. Power is more or less meaningless, especially when you consider the likelyhood of rain at competition. Heck, my team finished 11th overall (and 11th in endurance) and we had a tepid 67ish horsepower. The '06 team had an outstanding 100 horsepower and finished in the lower half of the acceleration event...

...and I'm rambling. We should start an FSAE thread...
