Lotus E20 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Heres the image with the 'find all' effect added to show the difference in the cascades/ inbound vertical strake(s)

I'd imagine this is just an asymmetrical test wing to ascertain which option is best for Silverstone.

I dont notice any assymetry at all. The angle of the picture is deceiving your eyes, and photoshop

Yep, there is an obvious assymetry.

I still believe it's the angle. The rearward part bends inwards.....so it does look different from this POV

I´m pretty sure, that the FW is asymmetrical.
The front edges of the fins should have the same angle from this perspective, but they don´t.

Indeed. The angle of the picture is deceiving your eyes.

On a note, about every race the same thing happens, 1 team has a part that is 'asymetric', and on how many times it actually was the case? Never.

Also, why would you want to have these parts asymetric? You are effectively saying you want more air around the tire on one side than the other, you want as much air around ot on both sides, not on one specific side.

Wing angles I can comprehend of being slightly asymetric, due to more left turns for example, but this isnt really the case in Silverstone so I see no reason at all to even consider trying an asymetric wing.

Is it me or is the rear bodywork fatter? I believe the sidepod merged with the rest before the exhaust, doesnt seem to be the case anymore

I'm not knocking anyone but its apparent that people who are seeing assymetry are really only thinking in a 2D plain.

Theres no assymetry to the front wing, its the angle the picture is taken from.

No just look at it, everything, thats 90° to the ground no matter at which perspective the photo is taken appears parallel.
But if you look at this, they aren´t parallel and the left front edge isnt 90° to the lower edge of the FW.
I hope you understand what i´m about to explain, english isnt my native language and its hard to explain this.

That is quite easy to explain. These planes arent 90 degrees to the wing surface.
