Ferrari F2012

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

That is a myth.....

The chamber simply changes the rpm location of the exhaust's peak pressure point for best exhaust extraction.

There might be a simple reason that it help to reduce abrupt changes in a flow which will effect the grip level and may be it can also create understeer or oversteering problem, thus came the problem of tire management. Where as if it only for best exhaust extraction then it will also be a means for create smother transition of exhaust gases over the diffuser so grip level when turning remain almost same...... :D

I'm thinking the new front wing may not have worked with the new slimline front brake ducts. Either way, we're unlikely to see it here, because Hockenheim has very different aero requirements.

Is it me, or do I spot a double floor intake?

Look at the splitter/fin that dips down into/under the floor.

If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

I think Ferrari's development around the bargeboard and sidepod turning vane area is very interesting. It shows just how complex some of the F1 flow control strategies are becoming. I think this area is increasing in importance as other performance avenues are closed off.

I've been admiring that as well. I can't decide if they're trying to help the exhaust seal the diffuser with vorticies from the bargeboards directly or indirectly by trying to mitigate tire squirt.

EDIT: Or both, or just trying to energize flow around the side pods.

Phinominal development of this car since Jerez. Incredible. Macca could learn a lot from these guys when it comes to bringing the parts to every race. Fantastic work Ferrari. Wow.
