What amazes me with all this is why they are legal.........it's all about twisting words around in the rules (like banning mass dampers was - but the other way around  ).

I am sure that wheel covers are specifically banned (i.e. trims as seen in indy cars and also on the porsche posted earlier).

Whatever job they do, by any reasonable deduction they could be construed to be wheel covers - even if that purpose is only incidental to their real function (like hell  ).

By the same token that a mass damper is a moving aero device; a fan car is in fact a sucker car in disguise. Surely these parts should be considered as sailing too close to the wind?

I just hope that FIA will not wait whole year to decide that that is illegal.
Because it will happend that all teams will make illegal parts and use them until fia decide that they are illegal, just like flexy wings.

That's a good point, with the mass damper look how long it took the FIA to question the legality of the device and to have it banned, surely Ferrari have took advantage of the FIA. They knew that even if it is banned, the worst that will happen is for the FIA to say "remove it", with no penalty given (like the mass damper). So in essence it's worth it for teams to get the advantage out of devices that be be illegal because by the time the FIA deem it illegal it's the end of the season.

If Ferrari can argue that it is legal this would surely prolong the time for a decision to be made. And with only 4 races to go they may just get away with it, I mean they've had it for most of the season, why should they change they're mind now?

I propose a more machiavelic solution:

1. Ferrari uses its influence to allow this thing to be legal until everybody has built its aerodynamic solution around the wheel covers. Meanwhile, secretly, they develop a new solution that does not use wheelcovers.

2. THEN they arrange for FIA to declare it illegal.

If they haven't thought about it, these guys need new strategists, or take some vacations in Colombia.

It would be great if Ciro or anyone else who speaks Spanish could translate this technical article:

I know but those translations aren't accurate at all.
