It's got to be related to the DRS somehow for two reasons:N12ck wrote:If skyf1 do have any idea about it, then I am confused, because they say its passive, although Lotus had said earlier it was working with the DRS system, I still believe it is for increased downforce from the diffuser, and then the drag generated by that system is lost on top the beam wing cover when DRS is opened, we will be able to tell what it does at Monza, if its there at Monza our theory is wrong, if its not there at Monza, we are correctf1316 wrote:So the new DDRS/F-Duct/whatever it is "works", or so they said on team radio. With Lotus usually concentrating on long runs on Fridays, we'll probably have to wait til qualifying to see how well it works (presumably, if it "works", there's no point taking it off) and what effect it is having - higher top speed, the ability to run more wing etc.
Very "interesting" development though - Lotus definitely used the correct word when describing it! This team, throughout its different incarnations, have always been innovators, and it's continuing here.
if it was working when DRS wasnt open then that would insinuate that it is increasing performance without DRS, so the only logical explanation is that it increases downforce until the rear wing is opened and then drops the extra drag- some benefit could be made by blowing that high pressure air into the turbulent wake to reduce drag when DRS is opened maybe?, as I have never found an outlet on the rear wing, I have never seen any other plausible explanationf1316 wrote:It's got to be related to the DRS somehow for two reasons:N12ck wrote:If skyf1 do have any idea about it, then I am confused, because they say its passive, although Lotus had said earlier it was working with the DRS system, I still believe it is for increased downforce from the diffuser, and then the drag generated by that system is lost on top the beam wing cover when DRS is opened, we will be able to tell what it does at Monza, if its there at Monza our theory is wrong, if its not there at Monza, we are correctf1316 wrote:So the new DDRS/F-Duct/whatever it is "works", or so they said on team radio. - Lotus have stated it uses the same "loophole" as Mercedes' system - i.e. that the DRS is exempt from the non-moving aero parts
- Lotus said on the team radio, it's working so you can use the DRS now
The activation of the DRS seems to change where the air is going, but exactly where and for what effect is still unclear; still, your synopsis definitely sound plausible.
but where is the outlet?Owen.C93 wrote:The problems they had could be with the fluid switch activating when it's not supposed to (when DRS is closed). Which would explain why they said "it's working now" since they could tell it wasn't stalling the rear wing while the DRS is closed. Just another explanation.
In the middle 15 cm of the RW ? Where its legal, we could see on the flowwiz in Germany that something had affected that area.N12ck wrote:but where is the outlet?Owen.C93 wrote:The problems they had could be with the fluid switch activating when it's not supposed to (when DRS is closed). I seen the flovis pictures and I couldn't see anything, aside from that how would such a system to stall the wing work?Huntresa wrote:In the middle 15 cm of the RW ? I have no idea, and here is the pic you can clearly see that its a V shape and you got 2 edges forming the V where air or something has blown,I seen the flovis pictures and I couldn't see anything, aside from that how would such a system to stall the wing work?
The beam wing and 1 other placeN12ck wrote:but where is the outlet?Owen.C93 wrote:The problems they had could be with the fluid switch activating when it's not supposed to (when DRS is closed). I would suspect so, although if the ddrs is creating downforce, it could be to balance thatHuntresa wrote:So is that nose specifix for Hungary to make more DF at front or?
Is it just a round section right at the front or does it stretch alittle bit back ? As in is the back of it smooth or does the air split on either side of it?N12ck wrote:I would suspect so, although if the ddrs is creating downforce, it could be to balance thatHuntresa wrote:So is that nose specifix for Hungary to make more DF at front or?
