They go through the rear crash structure. It looks more like they wanted to smooth out some crease in the floor, maybe they added a sheet to the floor (heat shielding? ballast (long shot)?)

I think this car is quite high in peak DF. Unfortunately, I think it's very pitch/roll sensitive and peaky.
