Fair enough. But in both cases Vettel fell back, in Valencia retired because of alternator, in Hockenheim demoted because of illegal overtake. Subtract the 20s penalty and the difference is 3.7 seconds. But you're right that no car looks outright dominant this year. I just get the feeling that the Ferrari is not as good as Alonso's results make it look.

No one has a worldbeater of a car this season, and the field has been narrowed tremendously due to the regulations. It's hard to build up any sizable lead due to the Pirelli tires being what they are.
This. None of the drivers are pushing, instead they're tip toeing around the circuit =D> #-o .

Does someone have reliable information on tyre usage during qualification today? I read on F2012 thread that the team was using Q2 tyres, yet on @insideferrari it said that they went on last set of soft ones in Q3. Also, in interviews for f1.com both of them said that they were disappointed because they made mistakes and didn't improve on Q2 times, which suggest they had the rubber to do so...

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

A car is only as good as its driver, and a driver is only as good as his car. I'd say the F2012 is probably a handful-and-a-half to drive. But it's not like Alonso is physically carrying it around the circuit.

Tomorrow should be a good test.

Hopefully it'll rain tomorrow... scattered storms throughout the race.

yr.no is now saying only 0.5mm of rain during the race. Hopefully Hamilton will get the second win he deserves.

But the overall pattern is pretty accurate. The teams are in the correct order, and the team mates are too... only the interleaving is incorrect.

Well, my top five is the top five on the grid, you just have to move Vettel up 2 places and demote Button down 2 \:D/

And Webber was a deviation from the standard if I may :P On a side note, we haven't done the race yet, but I'm usually wrong so I'm not holding my breath.

I don't agree it seems like they are running on high fuel
I think they must have forgot to drain their tanks for qualifying then.

Are you sure about this?? If it is true than only Alonso and Hamilton and maybe Massa have a new set of new softs for the race.

There's no way that Alonso and Massa qualified using the same soft tires from Q1 to Q3. Sorry but just not possible

They did two runs in Q2, the first on their Q1 tyres, the second on new rubber. I'm not sure about Q3 but I'd be amazed if they didn't run fresh rubber as they had a set of new tyres ready and waiting. Saving the options isn't really that important given they'll be running on the primes for as much of the race as possible, if it's dry.

Vettel's misfortune at Valencia is sort of pointless since had the alternator not gone, we have no idea what would have happened the remainder of the race. It's an assumption that he would have won the race and maintained his lead. But what if he happened to crash off at some point in the race? If Vettel doesn't get the 20 second penalty at Hockenheim --he doesn't try to make that overtake on Button-- who knows if he would have made up as much time to Alonso since he still would have been fighting to overtake, and he may have lost plenty of time. We'll never know one way or another had circumstances been different.

I don't think the F2012 is a great car by any means, but Ferrari did enough to get the car driveable for at least Alonso. It still has tire wear issues, but it's nowhere near as glaring as the W03. Among the legitimate top teams, I'd say the F2012 has the worst tire wear of all the cars. The blown tire strategies at Canada and Silverstone didn't help things at all.
