Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

So no new exhaust solution.

The slim wing must be the non DDRS wing. I guess they will test the two types of wing to see which one is faster in Spa.

Could they have copied Lotus that quickly? or is this a case of the the new aero head having a very "lotus"-like way of thinking and being independently developed?

Hello....this is my first post..
Regarding the wings...both are having drs but the slimmer wing is the low downforce version

Just had a thought about the DDRS. It seems everybody thinks that the tubing down the side of the car is essentially a fluidic switch that allows stalling of the front wing when the DRS is activated.

But the fact that they even /try/ to bring a kitchen-sink wing to try here makes me think that maybe the tubing is actually a convential passive Fduct that blows the rear wing above a certain speed? I'm thinking about perhaps the air passing from the "holes" we saw in the RW end plate into the upper chord and then blow out of the bottom edge of the upper chord?

Maybe a silly idea. But I did always think it was weird that people speculated (initially) that air flowed through the pipes in the opposite direction to the direction of the car, the pressures would have to be enormous in my mind.

The monkey seat works as a diffuser like the Lotus, but it sits behind the hot air exit and not a dedicated. It should improve hot air extraction and maybe give a little bit more downforce.

It has nothing to do with Lotus' rear wing blowing.

Given we were all baulking at Merc removing their upper cascades, it appears that Ferrari have a new front wing to test which has upper cascades removed too. Maybe Merc are heading in the right direction?

Sauber completely removed the upper front wing, because Spa is a low-downforce circuit
