Mercedes AMG F1 W03

You never know with this team, they might do something right this weekend; for once.

Both the outlets in nico's car are areas of low pressure.under the rear wing and behind the monkey seat. Blowing or allowing some air into these areas will reduce the low preesure and hence the drag and downforce. I don't think that beam will be connected to the rear wing. It is there to blow air to the low pressure area of the RW.

Well, this is Mercedes, after all. Perhaps it's connected with good intentions.

Like Lotus they must be testing the impact on the car before they go ahead with testing a full version.

One would think the actual connection to the rear wing would be the area of most impact.

I thought it was a joke....then I realized that we are speaking about Mercedes.

Anyway, it seems to be an interesting evolution, and if it works the car will be tremendously fast in the straights, which will be great here in Spa and in Monza. Lets see what happens in FP3.

Are they using the new device on FP3?

Edit: Michael times are being lamentable

Edit 2: They aren't using the device... Another disaster weekend ...

This is going to be a nightmare.

The only update that the team has and they are not going to use it, poor Michael and Nico.

It's not a nightmare for me... I'm used to these disasters.
Interesting "perspective". Would you rather the team ran an unproven upgrade during it's one and only practice before Qualy?
In so doing gleaning pretty much no information on set up for race and qualifying. Do you even know how long it takes to fit and remove the said upgrade? Lotus did exactly the same thing, too.
It's standard procedure. The lamentable side of it is that it rained on Friday with hardly any running to speak of.

it means that besides the fancy passive F-Duct no pure performance aero upgrades again..ferrari wasted alot of resources on the F-Duct in 2010 and lost out on the championship... merc instead of solving the rear grip issues and trying to exploit the exhaust gasses prove that they lack pure direction .. like instead of adding downforce at the rear they remove it from the front to get the right balance...Wait for a week or two and they will claim that the resources will be directed for next years car just like in 2010,2011 and now 2012

the sector times give it away...the car does not like carners ....sad as it is.
It´s unfortunatelly the medium to high speed corners which are not even quick right left but flowing ...so one can say it´s an aero deficit not something you might find with a superdooper suspension..
They have fallen back in terms of producing downforce and have instead found a plateau of balance wich is a good second lower than those who run a t the front.
As they have removed the cascades -it looks like the thing needed now is a means to keep the airflow attached to the sidepods and possibly a more sophisticated shape of the rear of the sidepods as well to improve the rear downforce .
As everybody does this it should be rather obvious to willis ,Bell,Costa, Elliott Ness and who else is engaged in all this.

It surprises me that ppl on this forum some with aero knowledge and some with very little ( no desrespect intended towards anyone) are easily able to find the flaws in the car but guys like willis ,Bell,Costa, Elliott Ness who are paid millions of dollars are not able to spot it? or even if they have they are unable to do absolutely anything about it... suddenly after hating Loic Bigois for years have finally started liking him... imagine the desperate times...

I believe their big update for Singapore will be revised sidepods and a different exhaust (at least it better be anyway!). They seem to be pointing in this direction. They may even employ the system Lotus has as well. I hope Sauber doesn't pass them up in the WCC, what a shame that would be. It's clear after seeing the car today in S2 that their DDRS really needs a stronger and more planted back end and that's the reason they cannot run as much front wing as they'd like. They certainly have the front wing for the job, but the back end just needs a substantial revision to make this work
