Red Bull RB8 Renault

The gurney is probably important in keeping the flow attached. The beam wing is possibly pushed to more critical angles than the rear wing itself is.

Wow. The wheel has breathing holes rifled in. and look how close the rim rides to the brake shroud! Talk about engineering big money can buy!

Nice to see that even in todays world of DMU packaging good old trial fit PMU still has a value...in my company the cheeky mechanics don T-shirt with the following words: It did fit properly in CAD! very low respect for the engineering -but rightly so as rarely parts fit at first attempt these days ...and that´s definetely not the fault of Catia or NX...

in regards to the conversation we had in the other thread, you can see the string (fishing line) for the toe measurement rolled up at the front crossbar, and the digital caliper to measure the the ride height at the top of the setup wheels.
The fishing line is a nice contrast to the carbon setup wheels.

to me this is NO contrast.
The string is light it is precise ,perfectly serviceable and just perfect for the application.
A laser or anything needs a lot of taking care of and is
initself a source of error.so efficientcy is using a string.

@ 227 kmph Vettel and Webber are the slowed cars in P1 and P2 , for the race with high fuel the car will easily reach the top speed at the end of the straights but it will be a duck in DRS and may be this time none of the RB cars will go into Q3 :( .

I can't help but wonder if RB will change the 7th ratio in P3 so that the top speed is atleast 335kmph . The tyres degradation looks good but so does for every other team and we will see majority of grid doing a 1 stopper which is the fastest strategy on the paper and Pirelli have been too kind with the tyres selection for Monza (though compared to last years this years is still softer compounds the medium this year is softer than 2011's soft tyres) .

Is RB going to remove some front wings cascades to balance the non EBD blown rear end this year ? :?

Nice flow on the beam wing. It looks in this picture that the 3 vertical strakes nearest the diffuser are perpendicular to the centerline of the car whereas they're usually in-line with the center of the car.

Unfortunately they can't because the gear ratio which the team using for the weekend need to be finalised and sumitted two hours after FP2

Any ideas for why they've attached a quarter of a wheel for all to see?

I get suspicious when I see stuff like that. It makes me think it's an act of subterfuge to distract cameras and prying eyes from seeing something else.

Or could it be for something as simple as checking clearance around the hub?

Yep, it must be for fitting purposes in my view, getting some clearance as small or as close to a certain amount as possible...

I once thought the clearance was ~2mm, i guess that would be to marginal.
