Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

I would like to see some sort of DDRS or passive F-dut but these have sure proved either usless or difficult so I'll trust their expertise & knoledge here and be happy with what ever direction they choose
Lotus have already stated that DDRS isn't worth anything in Singapore as there aren't any straights long enough for the advantage to be felt. So if they take DDRS there, which I doubt, then it will only be to test for later in the season.

I think we'll just see minor updates on all the cars tweaking the aero packages, even Ferrari with their much vaunted upgrade. We always hear from the teams how they're going to bring massive updates and then the fans have to play spot the difference all weekend to find the few detail changes that were made. The only exception where I've actually been surprised by the size of the update was when Red Bull completely changed their exhaust solution at the beginning of this year.

You weren't surprised by McLaren's radical bargeboard / sidepod skirt update? I thought it was rather significant.
Yer.

And their higher nose, and their new exhaust solution, and their new sidepods. McLaren practically made an entire new car throughout the season. The current car differs as much from the begin season Mp4-27, as the begin season mp4-27 did from the mp4-26

I wonder if there is any more room in the regulations to develop the side pod leading edge slats further? possibly the addition of vortex generators similar to what the slats replaced could further improve the attachment of airflow?

Any particular reason you want to generate a vortex on top of the side pod though? Vortex's can be used to "fill" stagnant areas, "seal" of areas of different pressure, they can be used to "tug" at other air streams, and maybe even other applications, but they cause drag. I think Mclaren would have a really strong reason before they put more stuff on top of the side pod.

I guess it depends if the leading edge slat is doing its job well enough, vortex generators can be used to keep airflow attached or even impart energy to the boundary layer. You could also use them to draw more air over the side pod through the exhaust area and ultimately into the diffuser.
Im just throwing ideas out though

Successful straight line test yesterday for Oliver in the 27.

Maybe testing something for Singapore.

It's a shame it's not so easy to swap out high DF for low DF otherwise I'm sure they would have done it at Monza.

Stepped nose allowed and "external" exhausts so
This year cars can pratically be fielded next year (HRT <- \:D/, Marussia <- \:D/)
I expect to see the exhaust regulations to be changed. FIA generally isn't happy about teams circumventing the rules. What I heard about the rules is that teams will be allowed to place non structural bodywork on top of the nose.

As in the aero-bits from pre-2009? That'd be interesting...

Well I think (hope) that it will be regulated that way it just makes sure noses look like pre-2012.

My people are saying a blown rear wing is coming for Singapore.

P.S - The stepped nose is still on the test bench though. I guess they don't need it!

A blown rear wing doesnt give anything in singapore since there isnt enough straights for a big advantage.

Couldn't it be used to add downforce?
Tune it to activate at lower speeds and have the airflow directed back which would increase the speed under the wing and in turn increase downforce.
