AUTOSPORT asks me to subscribe to watch their site? really?

Post

So, I had a pop-up window which says
You have 10 free views remaining

You've had 40 free page views this calendar month. After 50 you'll need to subscribe to keep viewing.
Well, they are entitled to ask as much as they want if they feel that they have customers ready to pay. But I'm not sure it is a wise move.

I wonder whether they have problems? Looks like a desperate move to me. Or are they just plain greedy?

It's been in operation for at least half a month now. They issued the notification a while back. I'm a Plus subscriber myself, so it doesn't affect me in the slightest.

Would accessing the site via a proxy server circumvent the problem?

If anyone is similarly annoyed that Autosport has gone and set a limit of 10 views per user per month without subscription I have some good news for you :)

Delete all cookies related to autosport and the counter is reset.

Enjoy

Don't know how much such a thread is relevant here, but since the Atlas days when I started the day with their site now I barely visit them.
For me this limitations are an example of the impotency of the corporate approach.

Yeah I tried the cookies thing, but it didn't work - I have a feeling they're doing a mix of cookies and IP logging..

Certainly, they do not, and this forums is quite an evidence.

I'm not really sure, however, why do we discuss the Autosport guys that much (no disrespect) - there are lots of other credible sites and blogs you could follow. Most of all, Twitter is free, and this is where the news get spread in a nanoseconds.
