Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

AFAIK the rules determine an angle of movement, not AoA. About the protruding plates, not sure what the rules say about flap open position.

Silly questions.
Does Redbull floor have 3 tunnel now?
I did not see 3rd tunnel until this weekend.

The rules determine the distance that the leading edge of the flap can move. The shorter the flap the greater the angle it will move through.

Interesting development, now they're including turning vanes to guide the exhaust air even further?

I think this picture from above clears your question
It´s not a 3rd tunnel, it´s the fin.

Optical illusion...just the vane on the inside front of rear tire probably to keep exhaust gases away from sidewall.

With all of the changes to the rear end with gapped floors, additional turning vanes, and ramps, one does have to feel sorry for Newey having to compromise the smooth RB5-7 heritage.

This looks like Newely has tried to make double diffuser with this iteration of the ramp very agressively . I am waiting to see if other teams ask for a clarification from the FIA  .

May be these ramp styled exhaust may be banned next season too if the car is uncatchable in the long run pace  .

To be fair the original RB7 in its launch spec had a tight behind too - it wasn't until Barca 2 that they doled out the ramp with some Botox.

Also Tobias Grüner reports "Two channels in each of the RB rearwing endplates. Beamwing is blown from each side plus center via channel through profile."

Why would it be banned ? Also this is not a new tunnel this is the same one we have had the last races, its the best exhaust solution atm for Red Bull, but not might be for others since its a matter of making it work with the whole package etc.

I would like to see all of the different exhaust specs race against each other (with as many of the other components being the same: rear wings, no DDRS, front wings, etc) to see how the ramp/double floor combo has improved over the a-spec.

I must say, it is the mark of a good car to be able to put either of the drivers of a team on pole.
