COTA Austin - construction and infrastructure

Post here all non technical related topics about Formula One. This includes race results, discussions, testing analysis etc. TV coverage and other personal questions should be in Off topic chat.

What do you think of the prospect of a USGP 2012 at Austin Texas

Good thinking. Place has good infra structure and nice climate in winter.

Not good as it has no motor sport tradition in the US.

This is all very odd. (http://www.F1cotanews.com) is now down. I decided to look who owned it. The URL is registered through GoDaddy and is private.

But, I did some more digging (through (http://www.domaintools.com)). The URL points to a server with this address: 50.97.128.226. That server is located in Dallas and its host is: rr01.gorocketred.com.

When I look up http://www.gorocketred.com, it appears to be a marketing and advertising agency., Rocket Red. None of its clients looked like anything connected.

So i did another search. Because the video was a pro-Hellmund video, i searched for: "rocket red" hellmund. I found this website (http://184.106.3.160/mediaImages.html), and it had Hellmund's company's (Full Throttle Productions LP) name listed across from Rocket Red.

What in the world? I thought Tavo was gone.

Well, it's an odd thing.

Perhaps Tavo is just doing his part in keeping Austin weird.

Rocket Red?

I remember wayyyy back when COTA first launched its website, a day or two later they put up a page with all their partners. Rocket Red was there at the time. Don't know if they still are or, if not, how long they've been gone.

This may be good news for some of you...as of a couple of days ago, construction is underway on the T11E GS:

It's hard to see with it all sloping downhill like that.

Wait. Seriously?

You know that's not the area that slopes downhill from the track. It's somewhat visible in the foreground, next to 10. It's not at 11.

Hmm. Apparently, what I know is where the GA area is.

In lieu of support races, the track is going to hold a tennis tournament among the team principals.

The GA area there stretches from near the T10 runoff corner to near the T11 GS. About half of it (the portion closest to T10) is downhill from the track. People there will have to look uphill and over the armco to see anything. The portion near T11 is great, looking downhill to the track.

I get that hardly anyone will use the area near 10 once they learn that they can't see anything there. That doesn't change the fact that COTA is still calling it a GA viewing area.

Ouch...One of those rows will be very uncomfortable sitting on the permanent FIA fence.
