Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Its not a new pic (bv from korea after race if someone in anger stop waching Vettels "finger" celebration  ) but anyway it clearly shows the complexity of rear wing endplate structure...

Firstly we could see nice complex curly&sloted shapes around ddrs hole => smooth transitions reduces (much as possible) drag penalty and increse or in other words maximize DDRS performance...

Second on the bottom tail section of the edplate (near strakes area) we could see nice whole endplate bending wich corespoded with the shape of diffuzor and rear brake duct etc. This changes are made in order to maximise the extraction of the air from coke bottle and even more importand this help ramp exhoust to seal diff = result of that is incresing downforce/drag reduction...

Awesome! Really nice piece of art! 8)

I hear floor holes ahead of the rear wheels, are expected to return soon.

Wasn't that disallowed in a technical directive by Whiting? Or dd they found yet another loophole somewhere else in the rulebook?

No no they just made slit to make total legal... nothing else... If scarbs had right and realible sourse i expect that new interation between Sauber&Ferrari slits...

Slots are indeed allowed in the floor; I am guessing that is what Scarbs meant then.

@ray It's from today. Some drivers do a seat check in their overalls.

Another photo of sidepods/exhaust from today. No slots on this one.

How wide does the slit have to be? I mean, Yes, it makes it part of the periphery - but isn't a razor cut enough? Just slice through? Or does the slit have to be of some width?

As long as theres the slot to the periphery of the floor then floor 'holes' are legal. Sauber and Ferrari still run them. I understand the new RBR slots are similar to the old ones with a large scoop joined to the fence inside the rear wheel.
