Nah he's pulled off a few in the DRS zones, but he's had a clear advantage for most of them. In fact the way the safety cars have worked out he's had a tyre advantage over the field for much of the race. It's being hailed as an amazing drive by Vettel, but frankly I can't see what he's done except be on the right tyres and having been lucky with two safety cars at a circuit not renowned for having safety cars, and with other drivers knocking themselves out ahead of him. He's also made three big mistakes, twice damaging his front wing through numpty errors and once having to give a place back to Grosjean for a dodgy overtake. Compare Vettel's recovery to Hamilton's in Barcelona where he didn't have cars falling out ahead of him nor safety cars to help him close up. By rights that was the kind of result Vettel should have had, but he's lucked into a much better finish.

But to be fair he's made the most of his opportunity and brought the car home on the podium.

Great win by Kimi. A little luck with Hamilton's car failing, as I don't think he would have had an answer for the lead McLaren, but he has clearly been the best of the rest over the race distance and thoroughly deserves that win.

Solid drive from Alonso but not really spectacular. He's been lucky that Red Bull messed up and gave him track position but unlucky that everything has just fallen into place for Vettel to recover.

I thought to myself that the podium would be Hamilton, Raikkonen and Alonso IF Hamilton didnt have a failure, which he had -.-

Well, good prediction atleast :)

Question On Vettel..........

Post

Can someone please explain to me how this was a "great" drive

-Breaks part of his front wing during a clumsy overtake, lucky not to do further damage.
-Crashes into a bollard/sign during the safety car and further damages the front wing.
-Passed Grosjean by going off the track and had to give the place back.
-Red Bull Sacrificed Webber by making him pit so Vettel could get past
-Got bailed out by two safety cars, the second car's timing couldnt be any better
-Struggled to Overtake button on fresh soft tyres against a car on Mediums.

Does this dispell anyone's misgiving's on how good Vettel is?

Feel free to disagree.

Yep, quite. 2 stupid crashes, a lot of safety car luck, and one overtake. Jammy bastard.
So lucky it hurts to call it a deserved win. Stupid drive by some other drivers simply gifted him the podium.
MSC starting last and finishing 5th with a crappy Mercedes in Spa never got anyone's attention. A kid's lucky strike at Abu Dhabi does
Memory lapse?
Karhikeyan?
Monza?
also people were counting Spain as luck bad for Hamilton. Same happened to Vettel.....

Yup, that's about the size of it. But his move on Button was flawless. In fact, his only faultless move of the race.

Alonso driver of the day for me.

He actually overtook faster cars like Button, Webber, Maldonado, and then dragged that car within a second of the race win.

No bullshit safety car luck.

No, they're counting things like losing 25 points today, 25 points is singapore, and 8-10 points in all of the races in between because of mechanical failures, along with several other races earlier in the year having mechanical failures, and disasterous pit stops that lost him literally hundreds of points this year.
