Post

Hi,

For the submission, just send the sketchup file to Nick (nick@khamsinvirtualracecarchallenge.com) and/or myself (julien@khamsinvirtualracecarchallenge.com). I have to admit that we are getting a bit caught up in regards to timing - we will try to improve for next year. If the file is large (let's say over 10MB), it would be great if you can put it on a skydrive/dropbox and send us a link.

I am just getting through the final touches for the CFD side (trying to make sure it all works). As mentioned before, once we have the results we will send you a link to one of the CFD result so that you can use them to learn and improve for next year. Likely format is VTK which can be opened in ParaView (open source available at http://www.paraview.org). If you have access to other post-processing tool, just drop me an email when you get the results and we will see if we can provide results in another format.

For info: there will be some minor changes compared to the CFD results shown on the website. So I am also rerunning the KVRC showcase car (and Nick may have done an update to it).

We will get some CFD results pictures for the website of the teams cars (the pictures will have team names on them). Let us know if it is a problem.

Please send us any pictures/render that you would like to have on the team page.

Will get my car up on my Google Drive and give you both access as my file is 23mb.
My team page needs updating if possible, it says I am using the supplied tub, I only selected that in the sign up as I wasnt sure, my tub is actually not the one Nick made.
I would love to get my hands on the suspension and wheels so that I can do a proper render, car looks more like a speedboat/spaceship in current renders.

Shall brush the cobwebs of my car and email it to you, is that ok??
And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high.

Can either Nick or Julien confirm they now have access to my google drive and the .skp file?

I submitted my car a little while ago. Next time I will put it on a drive but I saw this message after I sent it. The file is probably over 10mb. My car should be mostly, if not all, legal as I have fixed everything that was illegal apart from I have no wingmirrors because, well, I forgot.

Richard, Your email went through fine and I downloaded the skp file without problem. The car looks good. It would be great if you can leave it up there for a bit longer so that Nick can access it.

Rob, I did not receive your email. That could just be because I was not very active so far. Can you send it to me (julien@khamsinvirtualracecarchallenge.com)?

Cameron, Yes, please do the dust off your design and email it to us. No problem. We will run the cars that are submitted. Nick will check and comment on compliance directly.

Cheers, Julien, glad you got it ok, will leave it for as long as is required, even for backup purposes.
Ive got some great ideas in the pipeline for the 2013 car, the test car is just a refinement of previous ideas used in Formula Sketch.

With regards to the 2013 Championship, is there going to be rules about upgrade packages for the cars to stop the sort of thing that happened in FS? Like only 1 new tub during the season and it cannot be raced until a certain point in the season or X amount of changes between races?

it would be good to come up with rules like that to try and keep it realistic. but maybe wait till next year to not do much at once or maybe not

i.e
one nose design change - teams would have to re-do the crash test in real life so you don't see it often.
teams rarely completely change the sidepod design

things like that. by the end of the season the car should still resemble the start of the season.

I don't like the last idea that it should have to resemble the start of the year but there should be some limits to updates but I hope the game doesn't get bogged down in too many limitations and regs.

This is a design thing and were all learning as were going along so there shouldn't be too many regs. Maybe only 1 big upgrade every other race if we have to have regs but personally I think we shouldn't be limited much if at all.

let me clear up, this is not a game, it is a CFD simulation competition,

we are not treating this as a team management excersize, so you can update the aerodynamics as much or when you wish, this is not meant to be a game or team simulation it is all about developing aerodynamic knowledge and solutions whilst giving a fun competition so you can update when you want or by how much you want, there is no limits to updates, this is not a game and finally, this is high end CFD software and a vehicle simulation package that is being used,

i see where your coming from nick. it makes sense to keep it away from the feeling of it a game. Whilst it should be fun, its still based on true data

I guess based on that if you didn't allow someone to majorly change there car if it was floored in some way, it would remove the fun factor.
+ if you learn something new, you want to apply it.

its fair enough and good that the direction of the competition is clear.

Sorry about calling it a game as I know it isn't but what I meant was what astra was saying, that any regs would remove the fun factor and i'm very happy to see there will be no regs. I know it is based on real data and i'm really sorry for calling it a game.

if you work out that your nose design or something like that is causing huge issues with the aerodynamics, we want to allow you to be able to change that, as how the aerodynamics are and how you think they are will be 2 different things,

Thanks :)

Thanks a lot for all the teams that have submitted their design. There is still a bit of time left for submitting.

So far, we have received design for the following teams (let Nick and myself know if you submitted your design and your name is not on the list below):
RicME Motorsport
MercuryMotorsport
MARELI
STZ-Racing
Blindblom GP
Variante and
WigglesGP

The designs look very impressive - much better than what I would be able to do.
