This has already been discussed (and frankly has caused way too much drama). No it will not be penalised and the FIA and stewards said he did nothing wrong.

Ok, but I don't see any of that in other media, at least in Spain is hot topic and frankly I can't see the legality in the video above...

Anyway this post can be closed then.

Peace!

I've brought this up before and I'll reiterate it:

Different teams are there to race with each other. They can own as many teams as they like, but they simply can't order other teams' drivers to pull over as if they're a team mate. It's incompetence on FIA's part that this has never been regarded as bringing the sport into disrepute.

What's even more disgusting is them(Horner, Vettel and co.) having the guts to taunt Ferrari and Alonso whenever Massa helps Fernando. Massa is his team mate and team orders are allowed in F1. At least Alonso has 1 team mate. How many does Vettel have ? Vettel has won the title - fine, but how many guys in the last race has pulled over for him ?

As much as I dislike Alonso, I don't remember anyone pulling over for him at the title finale in 2010. It's such a shame.

Even if torro rosso kept his foot in, vettel would overtake him in next few corners anyway.

Anyone have radio messages of Vergne?

read he was told to open up a gap to the guy in front of him because Red Bull thought they might get a 20s penalty.

He failed though as the gap between him and Vettel were 19.2 seconds.

I read that too - but the way I read it it seemed (based on said article - can't remember where I first read it) it seemed like a construct by the Spanish media.

Don't forget - if they had thought to do that - the overtake happened on Lap 4 - 67 laps to the end. Also, the race ended under safety car.

Given the way teams throw money at problems until they are solved, Red Bull having STR on the payroll to assist in championship-deciding scenarios is pretty much within the spirit of the sport.

Yep, Spanish media. They are there to sell and fans love to feel robbed. Vergne was about 18 seconds behind vettel at the beginning of the last lap, the gap then grew a bit during the SC phase, and then Vergne made the fastest third sector of all in the last lap. Hardly what one would do to keep a gap.

Those guys.... i should have known. Spanish media have a habit of spreading nonsense.
Last time i read a Spanish article it was about Webber having signed with Ferrari. "breaking news"...
Nevermind then, i figured i post it here and get some proper thoughts on it which it did, and always does with you :)

I must add a disclaimer in that I have no proof it was a construct by the Spanish media. But that was the vibe that I got when I first read of this. I mean - managing a gap over 68 laps and 2 safety cars, and trying to fall back in an SC phase? Good luck.

I'm not a big fan of their media either, mind you.

Just to add on that false Vergne thing.

He was supposedly told that during safety car period as they finished the race.
To open up a gap big enough to still make Vettel champion.

Either way, they did not succeed with it if that was their plan.

The discussion looks a bit like re arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic when you consider the practise of the rules by the FiA. The issue was investigated by the race stewards and closed. There was no complaint by Ferrari which has the impact that the race result cannot be revised. But I understand that the national media in Spain and Fernando's fans want to understand all of it. It would be best for the national association to make an inquiry to the stewards of the race and publish that. It would probably sort this out much quicker than speculation in a technical forum.

You also have to consider the steward's (or any one judging) attitude on passing a car that wants to be passed and slows down in a straight, when you know that he knows that you know...
P.S. I am Spanish and an Alonso fan.

Re: About Vettel overtaking a Toro Rosso

exactly, you can legally pass someone even in yellow flag zone in special conditions
1. The driver spun or run off the confines of the track
2. Driver slows down abnormally (which is what happened here, no body slows down in a straight)
3. Driver crashed or technical problem

i thought people had learned about this after Melbourne 2009?
