McLaren MP4-28 (pre-launch speculation)

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Well the sidepods of -27 are very similar to -25 ones ..
From this year, you can insert a piece of non-structural material over the nose to avoid step

Yes - but the -25 nose would still be too high, to my understandings. The sidepods of the 27 were similar to the 25 at early season, which I myself stated as well. But not since the Hockenheim update.

IMHO
It would be enough to copy (:coff coff:) the brilliant W03 :P and insert non-structural material over it

It would be enough to copy the Wo3 nose and insert non structural materials, IMHO that will be more of indy car :x .

I present what the mp4-28 will most likely look like (add the exhaust lumps though and a fatter rear wing) : (MP4-25 at monza)

I would like the car if it would look like the 25. The 25 had neat tightly radiator inlets and it was an innovative car. I know the 28 will not have a f-duct because it is illegal now, but maybe some other nice invention. All in all the 25 was fast but thats off topic.

I think many cars will look like the 2010 version. The F2013 will look like the f10 and so on.

I think the 28 will be longer. Some said a longer car is better to seal the diffusor. A long car is also better for drivability which maybe saves the tyres. We'll see, can hardly wait

I think they have reached the optimal length
With a shorter car they would get less downforce
With a longer car they would suffer flow detachment and strange behaviour
Maybe there'll be difference of 1-2 mm (the precision of models)

how do you mean this? I didn't hear this until now.

With a shorter car you can bring the FW closer to the ground without using a too high rear ride high. but it doesn't help if you can't seal the diffusor

yes it's possible. he meant shorter wheelbase, this is problem who had mercedes in 2011 if a remeber corectly. Because of shorter wheelbase, they didnt have space on rear to seal air from sidepods to diffuser, also they didnt have enough space on back to make proper EBD without overheating tyers.
this also meaned lack of downforce.

thanks. so a longer car helps especially the sealing of the diffusor without overheating the rear tyres. A shorter wheelbase would lead to a more oversteering car (less grip behind + "lower" FW)

Did i get this right?

Do you guys remember what race it was that they ran a set up different for Lewis and Button they "twitter gate" where he was mad that button was faster on certain portions of the sectors-? I does anyone know if the only thing different was the wings-? or did they run also anything else different anyways I wonder if the car could have elements more like THAT race in particular (out the box anyways) I mean if Button was so fast Lewis was jealous maybe that's kind of how they will make the MP4-28 but which race was the who Twiter gate scandal-?? Sorry Anyone remember thank you..

Wasn't it in Belgium? Button had a low DF rearwing. Lewis had a more DF rearwing. Button was 8(?) kph faster

He wasn´t mad per say, it was his own mistake, he just felt he needed to let his fans know why he was slower.
Probably a bit of ego there too.

I liked it, it explained the situation pretty well, maybe he would not have touched Button but he would have most likely been on front row.

heres how i think the MP4-28 will look like.

Image

in the picture going from left to right theres the MP4-25, MP4-27 and my mix and of MP4-25,27, i'd like to see them evolve the basic shape of the 27 but with the 25's packaging a little smaller and a tighter gearbox as both the 25 and 27 has quite wide packaging in that area.

It was the same as the Monza wing, so it wasn't a problem of driver preference though. Button chose the right wing, while all the information was not communicated to Hamilton in time. That is why he was furious and showed the telemetry.
