A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Not sure about that. We've seen many episodes in the past when a middle-end team jumps just around where the top teams are, sure. But with a stable regulations mounting a challenge for the ultimate top requires some gradual year-to-year improvements. I would think that it is likely that next year will be closer, so a driver factor can play in their advantage if Lewis has a great year, but I doubt they can produce out and out best chassis. OTOH 2014 can be a break year for them.

1) 5, not 3 – 1998, 1999, 2010, 2011, 2012, that's a 35% hit rate at winning championships, and given that he deliberately chose to join a team that was starting from scratch, it's even more impressive.
2) 14 is an odd place to cut it off. Why not choose 15, or 13? If you'd chosen 22, it would have been 9 out of 22 WCC cars designed by him, or 40% – even more impressive.
3 in 14. Fact buddy. 99-2012 is 14 seasons. and 99 Ferrari won that title. 3 in 14 is correct. More to the point it was only a sarcastic quote, I am fully aware of how good Mr Newey is, as is everyone on this forum. I was just pointing out that 3 in 14 doesnt seem as good as it should be maybe ?

They were talking about WCC.
Exactly , As the designer of a car, you would imagine he/she will be more satisfied with a Constructors title. plus a constructors title shows how good the car really was. In other words, if its just a drivers title, people wouldnt bang on about the designers and how great the car was. Perfect example would have been if Alonso had won the title this year not many people would be saying how great Pat Fry's F12012 was.
Anyway, Back to topic. Sorry for the recent off topic quotes

Twitter (reliable) sources: Mercedes will launch the W04 on February 4 at Jerez.

Yes please! Subsequent posts have been deleted.
By the way this is only the speculation thread and it is hard to stay on topic when the subject of the topic hasn't been seen yet. So its inevitable that the conversation will stray. There will be much stricter moderation on the proper car threads.
_Orfeu_ , grow up!!! and stop be a fanboy here!!! btw; only english.
back on thread..... i think it's a mistake for Mercedes to reveal car at Jerez ! with a guy like Hamilton they can have a show at launch ... something like w01.
DAMN !! i love photo game !!!last year was amazing
They probably just want to maximise every day possible to making the car the best it can be, no team wants to reveal their hand first, but sponsors give some teams no choice but to make it a big public event.

Just out of curiosity, do we now believe that Mercedes delayed the W03 launch to 'hide things', as I believe they claimed at the time, or because they were late?
If I'm not mistaken, there were spy shots of the car on a filming day almost a week before the official debut. I think the car was as ready as any for pre-season testing.
