Calm down people, it's the first day. McLaren is struggling as well.

The MSC fans have so experience with this team... The Mecedes season begins like the rest of the seasons began, that is to say, pathetically.

I have more faith in humanity to be able to tell the difference in colour shades and the difference between black and yellow gloves.

And the difference between where the two cars should be on the track, so long as they aren't literally driving on top of each other.

Maybe that's too much faith

At least Button could get milage this afternoon... and with the fastest lap.

Still here is Nico's reaction:

I have the feeling I read always the same with Nico "it's positive, I feel comfortable in the car, the team is improving, we'll get closer..."
So, nothing really new...

That's because it IS always the same with Rosberg. He is never negative, never critical and he's always trying to be the nicest and most optimistic guy there is. Kudos for having such great character, but in the last years it made most of his words pretty useless in my perspective.

Max Chilton (Marussia) 29 laps
Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) 11 laps

Says it all really. This team will never learn. Tyrrell , BAR, Honda, and now Mercedes. All the same.

Good luck to Lewis. I hope somehow he manages to keep his temper in check, can't do it for long though I fear.

I have the same feeling. I couldn't play a role like that. Lewis will be more realistic in his comments. He knows soon how good or bad the car is.

Hahahah...oh yeah...i saw Mclaren last year...reliable and fastest in testing and then not even second in the championship!...at least now he knows what to expect!
I think that Mercedes is the only team that can beat Red Bull next year...they have everything they need...but only if they find their way at last! [-o<

The part which requires modification is the wiring loom where the electrical fault originated this morning

Fail...

Rosberg was the lab rat, lewis chose wisely.
Τhis is unbelievable. And it's exactly the reason why some of us are so disappointed with this team. I know problems arise often in testing, it could happen to anyone etc. but in the case of Merc there is always fear (and knowledge) that something, somehow will fail. From a car part to a fundamental flaw or a driver's error, something is going to make their lives difficult.

It's like the "Mercedes DNA" is limited to the silver livery and the 3-pointed star. Everything other than that doesn't have the quality or the reliability someone would expect from the historic brand. Or even the attention to detail if we are going to be honest about it.
It's better that this kind of fault happens in testing rather than at the first race. This is a minor blip, it's not like the entire car fell to pieces after a few hundred yards or the suspension failing.
The wiring loom is at fault, and that should be an easy enough fix.
It'll be interesting to see what kind of laptimes Lewis gets tomorrow and his body language afterwards if he gives any interviews. It's a new season, clean slate. Expectations for Mercedes are set low. I will judge them on qualifying and race performances rather than testing. Which is what this kind of thing is for - finding faults, fixing them.

Re: Mercedes AMG F1 W04

I usually doom and gloom but i think actually they have produced a decent car. Rosberg were quick right out of the box so i think the car is OK.

Then of course it almost blew up but that´s just normal Brackley standard, but i think if they can keep current design without mods they are looking for some good results.

From what i see they have sorted what i thought the main issue was about last year. The center bulk of the car (section under the airbox at the end) now sits much more lower and is "flatten" out. last year if you look at that particular section you see that is is much "bulkier" then other cars.

I remember some strong words from Nico last year and in 2011. One comment was "this car is a ---" or something like that, so sometimes he can show a little bit of character.

Anyway, I am tired too of this surrealitic positive attitude.

I am starting to wonder how many times over Hamilton repeats the following phrase on a daily basis..."I have made the right choice,I have made the right choice".

Joking aside,I really hope Merc gets it right this year.I have a feeling if they can get a championship under their belt,it will a)keep them in the sport and b)more importantly atract one or two other manufacturers who compete with them in the automotive industry to see if they can also get the same exposure Merc will no doubt get, should they win.
