So he's saying the W04 is down on DF.
If we assume the MP4-28 will have even more downforce than the car he drove... i'd say the situation might be more worse than what he is saying.
Steady guys. Did you really expect the car to have McLaren levels of downforce? Last years car was a beast in that regard.
If he's saying it's not that bad and that it's a base they can build on, and they haven't put the 2013 spec wings on the car nor all the final aero devices, then they're probably not in too bad shape. It's way to early to suggest otherwise just yet. Don't forget they're not expecting to fight for the championship this year. If they can steal the odd win and regularly challenge for the podium then that would be a spectacularly good year for them.
2013 is all about making sure that their wind tunnel, CFD, and the real world all correlate and that they are able to develop the car over the season. That's something they've not really been able to do before, even in the Brawn championship winning year. They've invested heavily in staff and facilities and they now have a driver who is known to be one of the fastest on the grid and adaptable to driving around niggles in the car. If they can show that they can have flashes of speed, then next year it's realistic to think they'll be able to mount a championship challenge - it may still need a lot of factors to come together, but it wouldn't be a pipe dream.
