ofcourse, but where's the fun in that :P

F1 drivers are competitive bunch, I'm sure if you got them all to the track at the same time they would be doing laps and discussing who cheated where until they had driven the wheels of it :)

Either the video footage shows him cutting the corner massively (in such a low HP car, every mph you can carry more through Hammerhead helps you all the way to the second to last corner as the rest is flat out from Hammerhead onwards. So we're not talking about a couple of tenths only.

The other statement was (by Ben Collins? Can't remember) that the footage shown was from another lap and not his times lap. His timed lap was on a almost dry track with a couple of wet patches.

Anyways, good that he'll do it again so there will be no more controversy :D (unless he's suddenly a second quicker than Vettel, than that would be fishy. I reckon he's either gonna be close to Vettel, matching him, or at max. 0,2 seconds faster)
I seem to remember that they limited the F1 drivers to only one lap ?

Really? I doubt that. Vettel even asked for adjusting tire pressures which you would probably do after you've realised that the default values are no good. But I'm no expert in TopGear rules ;)

Why are we arguing which part of the track was cut?
You can compare all wheels off to one wheel on, then go and which one is more advantageous. One would have been a legal qualifying lap in F1 and the other would not be a timed lap.
I'm expecting a smashing lap.
For Sure!!

been a long time since I saw that episode, but I think he asked them to _check_ the tire pressure to make sure it was correct

Hamilton went past the white line completely on the very next corner and on the one after the tyre barrier.

The BBC's behind the scenes piece had him asking Hammond, "what am I allowed to change? Can I change tyre pressures?"

As I said before, the rules on the show are clear: no crossing the inside line at Hammerhead. All the F1 drivers would have otherwise. You also aren't allowed four wheels off like Vettel did, but half the guests cut that corner slightly. They don't follow F1 rules.

People are arguing about someone cutting a corner and perhaps gaining one or two tenths on a lap where he was more than two seconds quicker than someone who didn't gain those tenths. So where did the rest of the lap time come from? :?

Perhaps it's because he is black? [To quote Lewis quoting a comedy programme]

Seriously people, this programme is a satire; it's not meant to be taken seriously.

Although Lewis was waaaaay quicker than Button, Webber and Mansell.... =D>
And he was only 0.7s slower on a wet track than Vettel on a dry track (and Vettel cut the second to last corner so they're even on corner cutting). Vettel did come across as a "good bloke" in the interview though. Quite a funny chap, for a German...

Vettel, Button, Mansell, Hill, Barrichello, Raikkonen (hard to tell though) all stay within the lines. And Webber doesn't get anywhere near the line. Getting three tyres outside the line and the fourth on the line is pretty significant "cutting" IMO, especially as the corner is so tight usually.

Edit: as you mentioned, Vettel also cuts a corner somewhere. The Topgear laps are entertaining, not much to really read into though - except for fanboys on Youtube by the looks of it.
The drivers get many chances to set the time, and that the video that you see may not be the actual fastest lap.

All we know is that in similar conditions, Hamilton is 1.1 seconds faster than Vettel in a reasonably priced car.

it may not even be from the same lap, it might be "representative" parts of several laps cut together .

and while the celebrities get several laps I'm sure I remember Clarkson saying the the rules for F1 drivers was that they one got one timed lap
