AMuS is telling us that Mercedes is using the 1h break for checking the gearbox. there is a problem with it. Thats the reason why they stay in pits.

<sarcasm> BREAKING NEWS . Mercedes found the perfect way for spending 4 testing days. Two without driving and two with excessive pain in the ass for their drivers and lots of laps. So this will be the plan until the First race. </sarcasm>

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't this the time for teams to be testing to their hearts content.....yet we see a whole lot of 2-3-4 lap runs....and in and out laps.....I mean to gather useful data for extrapolation I would think the more you run ie the more data you collect the more accurate your predictions/extrapolations.....I'm really confused as toteams sitting the whole morning out or doing in's and out laps.....

It seems that the Mercedes has gearbox troubles. As far as i am aware, you are not limited to the number of gearboxes during testing. It wouldnt take 15 minutes to replace a gearbox. There must be a bigger problem with the Merc.
