Ferrari F138

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Or maybe same exhaust but to measure it in different places to see influence of side flow, tire and strenght of downwash. One on the right side is much closer to the exhaust and other pitot tube is further back in the suspension zone.

I would think they are the same exhaust solution on either side.

The coanda ramp is the same on both sides so if they wanted to test differences they would have to make different exhausts for either side. This, potentially could give you different manifold pressure characteristics for the banks of cylinders.

Like Jaba says i think they are just testing the flows at different areas of the car. They need to use both sides as they cannot stagger them one behind the other, obviously as the flow behind the lead one would be distorted.

but i would think this is pretty cleaver cause the flow on one side isnt influenced by the other, and all the ambient variables (air temp, humidity, barometric pressure etc..) for both rakes are the same. no need to do one side, then the other, then factor in the variables for the change in air temp and ambient air pressure, humidity.

Even the speed air speed (on a straight) will be the same for both rakes.

what is encouraging, for me and my limited understanding, is they are confident to move on to the rear of the car after the getting data from the front rake.

one would think if the data they got from the front rake didn't add up to the wind tunnel data they would have done further tests on that area.

they haven't, they have moved further down the airflow and are validating there.

thats my optimistic view.

Good look at the diffuser today. Maybe a couple extra slits compared to last year under the crash structure?

I agree.....I think is way better than last year and it looks like they have a good base....also read somewhere an interview with Pat Fry and he says that so far no correlation issues and they are where they expected to be.....so for me that is a good and optimistic sign....and right now who knows what they have up their sleeve.. [-o< ..as I think it was Tombaziz who said the launch spec and the current testing spec is nowhere near where they are in terms of aero developement in the tunnel....said the launch car had very lil wind tunnel time....yet the car seems to be there or there abouts indicating that they do indeed have a good base to work from and if there is no correlation issues we can expect a very good developent rate from the Ferrari team.....all in all I am optimistic that they can challenge and by that i mean properly challenge for victories and the WDC/WCC

He seems fairly happy with the car to me. Reposted from

http://adamcooperf1.com/2013/02/19/fern ... er-planet/

“I feel reasonably pleased with this first day,” he said. “And I can say I share Felipe’s opinion that the car is on another planet compared to the one we began with on the first day of testing last year. The programme for this first session in Barcelona is aimed mainly at improving reliability, with the target of completing more than a hundred laps every day.

“Then, at next week’s test we can concentrate on performance. Tomorrow, we will complete what we were unable to do today and we will focus on car set-up, to adapt it as well as possible to the tyres. I knew from looking at the Jerez data what sort of car I would find here today, as in fact we know more or less what we will see at the first race in Australia, in terms of what new parts we will have and how many tenths they will produce.

“This is down to all the work done over the winter in the wind tunnel and the numerous tests which confirm that the parts that are on their way will give the expected results.”

no that is a good pic,

according to AMUS Vettel was asked by his team to park as close to the garage doors/walls to avoid beeing shot (like this) from the roof/balcony.

I'm not normally a ferrari fan, but I think this car looks beautiful!
Everything on this car looks like a huge amount of thought has gone into it.

In the second photo, ignore the hole. Look at the amount of narrowing caused by the pylons!
