Still hope they'll be sorted for this arvo.
Agreed, it's annoying me with that ironic answers all the time.

Perez goes second with a 1:22.586, presumably on medium tyre.

So his mediums are faster than his Softs???

Autosport reported that his previous fast time was on the "soft", but I assume they meant to imply that he was on the "softer" tyre out of the hard/mediums.

Here's the quote:
11:21 Sergio Perez vaults from seventh to second. His own soft tyre run produces a 1m22.743s, which moves him to within six tenths of Vettel.
Then again who knows, maybe it really was soft tyres? Looking at the pics in the car thread could possibly help.

Edit:

Perez just did a 1:21.848, definitely not on hard tyres. O_O

Looks like they finally took him off of long run duty.
13:38 That lap, set on softs, included outright bests in the first and final sectors.

And after going clear, Perez comes into the pits next time round. For reference, the fastest time on softs during last year's test(s) at Barcelona was a 1m22,312s.

So maybe he was indeed on softs in previous fast laps as well then.

He did an 8 lap stint, and that means that he had 8 laps worth of fuel on board, 7 more than he needed to have to do a qualifying run, he still did a 1:22.7. Given that one lap worth of fuel weight accounts for 0.1 seconds around Barcelona, that tells us that he could have done a 1:22.0 at least if he had 7 laps less fuel on board. It's plausible that he could have gone faster, if he had even more fuel on board. We also know that there is 0.5 seconds a lap (roughly) between the different tyres, and that his lap was set on hard tyres, thus we know that if he was on softs, he could have done a 1:21.0. We do not know if he was using DRS or not, but the bottom line is that even if he was, this car is at least 0.7 seconds a lap quicker than last year's McLaren around Barcelona (compared to the same driver, using DRS, and with an overly low fuel level). We also know that it's 1.2 seconds a lap quicker than last year's william's around Barcelona (which was pretty damn quick).

There isn't really dispute in this, these are knowns. He may be able to go faster, other people may also be able to go faster. But we know that the Merc is at least this fast.

Note – I did not assert that Merc could pull that time in qually this year (making your comments about DRS being banned irrelevant). I asserted that they're able to do it now (with or without DRS, which is an unknown), and that it's a fail comparison against last year's pole time.

Vettel is doing a race simulation and after 8 laps he had to do a pit stop for new tyres, all the cars are eating tyres.

''Vettel kommt in seiner Rennsimulation derweil zu seinem ersten Boxenstopp. Nur acht Runden haben die weichen Reifen durchgehalten. Die Zeiten brachen dramatisch ein - von 1:29.6 Min. zu Beginn des Stints bis auf 1:34.1 Min. am Ende. Die Mechaniker haben übrigens noch einmal Soft aufgezogen.''

That will give headaches during qualifying. If the softs keep going off that rapidly, we will see very early pitstops at Melbourne.

Vettel is awfully slow... last year race sim the very same day (2nd day of Barcelona 1), he was more than 1s/lap faster and eat less tyre.

That's the way it is, I believe... The tyres are faster on the first lap, but are gone after 3 laps...
All Vettel is able to do is four consistent laps 1:30.013 1:30.375 1:31.360 1:30.780 before starting to drop off massively.

This is unbelievable, after 10 laps the tyres are completely gone!
