That looks pretty good. But his latest is 1:30:617 .... so I think all the cars are facing similar degradation.

Ferrari's deg seems worst of all.
That's difficult to tell. Vettel did a 7lap stint also on the hards, which all were slower then Alonso's. His drop off was 2 seconds, Alonso's 5 seconds, but he obviously went much faster with these tyres, accelerating the wear.

It makes sense to me to try it both ways; hammer them for a lap or 2 and then see how long you can make them last and then a less aggressive opening to see if that helps degradation. There may be a window with the tyres to 'bake in' a little longevity with a particular heating cycle.

Don't forget to check the edit to my last post for Nando's times to see where he starts dropping 1s/lap.

1:32.013 (72)
1:32.099 (73) is Sergio just cruising?

True.

However, I have noticed that Alonso's times have been dropping off quite considerably over both days. It may be, as you say, that he's pushing them "over the cliff" on purpose with quick laps at the beginning to gauge their behaviour, but it does *appear* at least that his drop-off is quite significant.

Hard tyres for Perez, but still this is by far the most consistent long run of the day...

But Vettel is doing really well as well...

1:28.389
1:28.147
1:28.683
1:29.083
1:28.864
1:28.930

That is also true. We of course also do not know the fuel levels. Vettel appeared to be on race sim; did around 17 laps on 2 sets of soft tyres before them, so his fuel load would be what you would expect in the late-early or middle of a race. Alonso's fuel load was atleast enough for 11 laps. So he might be anywhere between early-late and late-early race sim.

Last year's fastest race lap was a 1:26.250, will be interesting to see if anyone beats that during race simulations, that will give you an indication as to where teams stand.

A 5 second drop over 10 laps seems the norm... well Perez's latest run has only a 2-3 second drop... but his first lap was in the 1:29:00's instead of 1:25:00's so maybe thats why. He didn't push as hard on the first lap.

It looks like the drivers will need to find a balance between speed and conserving the tyres.

Vettel causes a red flag at the end of the pit lane which is a shame as both he and Hamilton were looking to do some good times to compare with Perez's consistent laps.

Hamiltons run:

1:25.210 (98)
1:28.702 (99)
1:28.184 (100)
1:28.884 (101)
1:28.986 (102)
1:29.747 (103)
1:29.033 (104)
1:29.697 (105)
1:30.125 (106)
1:30.253 (107)
1:29.934 (108)

Interestingly takes three tenths out of himself ten laps in (and seven tenths seven laps in), wonder what would've happened if he continued.

Also, is anyone else wierded out by the fact that Marussia's last 50 something laps have been untimed and the only time they've set is over seven seconds off the pace?

I can't wait to hear what Hamilton has to say about the car after today's run. Should be enlightening.
