Its a bit of a conundrum, just enough fuel for the 17 laps?

Indeed. What did they change to make this car appear so featherweight on tires now. Nico could also simply be taking it easy on the tires, but still, I cannot follow how they would degrade so little.

Webber appears to be on a race sim at the moment. First 7 laps were in the 1:31 range, tire change, then 1:28 dropping to current 1:31.7 after 11 laps.
maybe it was the fact that he nursed those tires in the opening 3 laps, with slow times

Im sure i read somewhere that this is what Checo would do in the races where he had to manage his tyres.

Extra slow at the start but in doing so adding 6-7 laps to his stint?

Yes... but last years Sauber was also one of the cars with the least tyre degradation.

Huh, why? Grosjean is currently lapping faster and also on a long race simulation.

The lap times...

1:30.979 1:31.282 1:31.334 1:31.632 1:31.881 1:32.188 IN OUT 1:28.457 1:28.853 1:30.561 1:30.594 1:30.942 1:31.252 1:31.072 1:31.347 1:31.696 1:31.749 IN OUT 1:29.679 1:29.586 1:29.642 1:30.050 1:30.843 1:31.086 1:31.037 1:31.347 1:31.471 1:31.774...

To be able to de 1:28.4 with about 60 laps remaining in a race simulation looks very fast. And the drop is not a disaster.

15:02 A bit of disruption in the pitlane as the McLaren men were waiting for Button to come in, only for Giedo van der Garde to come through their box en route to the Caterham garage. Having to jump out the way didn't go down too well with some.

Giedo did a Button ROFL
Irvine:"If you don't have a good car you can't win it, unless you are Michael or Senna. Lots of guys won in Adrian Newey's cars, big deal. Adrian is the real genius out there, there is Senna, there is Michael and there is Newey. They were the three great talents."

This morning, Pirelli official said that the tyres will start to behave normally after long runs in the afternoon, due to temperatures. Could that be the reason why Redbull and Lotus are having some good race times?
