Attending Italian 2013 GP Advice

Post

Im going to attend the Italian 2013 GP, and would like as much advice as I can get on attending a GP and attending the Italian GP as well.

A couple of key questions im looking for answers on are;

1) At any GP, or Monza, or any other track, can you take refreshments into the venue or do you have to be ripped off there?
2) Is it better to attend the whole weekend or just Saturday/Sunday?
3) At any GP, or Monza is there places to buy memorabilia? Items like gears used in a F1 car in 2007 or something like that?

Ive already picked out the seating area I want in 6A as i want to be able to see Variante Rettifilo (First Chicane) and if i get the rear of the stand, look over and see Variante Ascari as well.

I also hope to get lots of great pics for the site as well, and maybes do a 2011 and get pics of a stranded Red Bull underbelly.

Thanks in advance.

At Montreal you were allowed to bring whatever you wanted, coolers, etc whatever. Nobody checked your bags or anything. On Friday, some guy even brought in one of those large wheeled coolers full of beer 8)

I would reccomend the whole weekend, Friday is a lot more relaxing since it's nowhere near as crowded. It's much easier to walk around and see what's going on. And if you get lost, or distracted, you don't feel like your missing out on as much. Unless you get on the end, it's hopeless getting up on Sunday, you got to fight for your space

I didn't see any souvineirs that were particularly special, just Montreal tee shirts, F1 appearal, car models, paintings, etc.

Thanks.

Ive did my routing about, and have came about 2 or 3 roadblocks getting there but some creativity and imagination and ive overcame them.

Ive did the costings, and friday isnt an option, too expensive, adds another £300 onto the top end of the bill. Money that has been eaten up by more connecting flights and a overnight stay at London Heathrow.

As long as i can take a litre of water into Monza and then be able to then get refreshments ill be fine.

As for memorabilia, im now not too bothered, as long as i can get something decent ill be happy! However if theres a crash at Retifillo ill be there with bells and whistles trying to get some wreckage.

Couple more questions:
How much is it for food at a F1 track?
How early should i get to the track, earlier the better i guess?
As for what to wear, i guess i should wear summer clothes but be prepared for rain (2008) if it rains.

Im not going to wear my McLaren colours, as if there is a McLaren win i guess there could be a lynch mob. I think ill wear some lower team colours.

Hi mate, u will find that the food and drink is expensive but its never been a problem to take your own to save money, well certainly at silverstone its no problem, in the past i took my bicycle and did a couple laps of the full gp circuit at the end of sunday after the racing :D , as you can see the tifosi storm the track anyway at the home races so you'll get to pick up some marbled pirelli rubber and try to remember where and cars broke over the weekend - possibly some carbon bits/fragments if you scour a gravel trap hint hint.

Its great if you can camp there the whole weekend, there will be a great atmosphere. its also good to have a roving ticket on say friday and saturday so you can move around the various grandstands freely to check out the action from different corners etc as sunday tends to be annoyingly crowded and you just watch the race from your seat pretty much.

Booked up!

Cant believe im going, it will be an amazing first race!!

Aiming to travel light to a point. Light enough to have both weather eventualities covered, and light enough to cover all my photography needs as well. Telephoto lens a must with one more lens.

Cannot wait to see the new GP3/13 in action as well as the final European race for the GP2/11 and the V8 power as well.

Yes, you can take whatever you want.

During free practices you can go everyhere. I mean, literally. There are no numbered seatings, you'll have the best chance to get some nice shots.

Never saw memorabilia for sale in Monza.

Have a nice race man!

Good luck and enjoy your first GP ESP!

Hopefully this year will also mark my first time if I can make it to Austin.

@ESPImperium: First of all, congratulations, the roar is unique, as well as the atmosphere.
Words of advice from my fellow TV commentator and colleague, who has attended many races:
Getting to Monza is always related to immense traffic - 80 or 100,000 of the most fanatic and supportive fans in the world will fill the track with Red, so get earlier there to avoid the traffic lights which are usually being specially regulated for the race, which actually creates a lot more traffic.
From me: Food on GPs is always crappy, water prices differ, but expect average 4-5 euro for a humble bottle. At this time of the year there's a lot of sweat, so you'll need a lot of water.

elFranZ - Thanks. Ill probably get there as early as i can get, so i can get comfy and orientated as quickly as i can.

mx_tifoso - If theres a crash, you can bet your bottom dollar, and Tombas as well, ill be down there at the end of the race getting pics to bring back to here.

Kiril Varbanov - Im thinking about getting lunch from a wee cafe if there is one near the hotel in Bergarmo im staying in, im also gonna take loads of water, maybes even get a camel back. But i think getting plenty of water as i go along will be my goal, as long as its chilled.

kultmagazin - See you there! Or tweet me there, you follow me im sure.

Hi guys!

Thinking of attending the Monza GP as well... any ideas on which is a good place to get a seat? The Centrale tickets are a bit pricey for us (€570), but apart from that, as long as it doesn't exceed €370 for the weekend (Fri-Sun),we should still have plenty of options available...?

Here's a picture of the track: Image

Prices are http://www.italy-grand-prix.com/en/2724 ... 3god7FcAaw

I guess a big screen would be a preferable to have close by, though I think this year we'll definately get one of those mobile screens to take around the track.

Any ideas on where would be a good location to get good seats? I've been checking some Youtube videos to get an impression on the views of the track, but having never been to Monza before, it's all quite difficult to judge. We've been to Spa and Melbourne which were both great experiences, so this is not my first GP... but any advice would be still appreciated!
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II
