Mercedes AMG F1 W04

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Great shot of the rake. Ty.

I cannot imagine it will be an all new wing, but rather a revised version of this already spanking new unit they have. Looking forward to the rear wing and floor for sure though.

Interesting times: (If I`m not wrong Alonso did them on hard tyres and Rosberg on medium ones?)

Alonso`s left times compared to Rosberg`s right times :

Image

And not the times are very similar, even teams test schedule are mirrored since Aldo Costa has arrived at Merc, isn`t it?

Another thing is the rumor about an passive F-duct which works together with DRD.
As I remember the F-duct is illegal now but not the passive one.
The rumor aslo said that they have 2 passive F-ducts, one for the RW and another for the BW but not on the FW, due to their last year issue ...

Btw. I was always wonder what is the purpose of those 4 rectangular pieces on the main flap:

Image

Also according to Aldo`s statement at AMuS: http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/form ... 37598.html if they could manage to set up their DRD system they could gain some 10km/h on the straights ...

And last but not least, they changed their rim wheel supplier :

The tire squirt has changed, so this is a different floor for sure maybe they have another one yet to come.
The exhaust looks like it is lower and closer to the floor.

I know this is not the best comparison shot, but it gives you an idea about the Petronas logo:

Looking at the pictures posted at
http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/bild ... how_item=6
Looks to me like mclarens new camera from the positioning would create downforce in much the same way as the pelican nose on the Lotus, aero neutral shape but positioned in such a way as to create a lower pressure zone under the nose.

according to Scarbs' twitter, it's for access to pressure sensors.

that means they have tried 3 different variations. there is the plain Petronas writing as well. I did think the original (with slogan) was hard to read on tv due to the sidepod shape

Can you please stop discussing testing times in the car threads? There are separate threads for that.

Did anyone observed the side pod air intake shape has changed? Kind of become rectangular from sort of triangle.

They are. use the grills in the endplates and the bottom of the wing for reference.
