Mercedes AMG F1 W04

Really interresting interview. Sort off hinting that the W04 is better than the MP4-27.
It would be bad if it wasn't. All cars have improved compared to last year. If mercedes weren't able to build a car capable of beating last years best car, they can forget about this season.

His grin says it all. The Merc is defrinately doing better than he expected. They were never going to say they were going to win the WDC or WCC this year. The lower the expectations the better it will seem if they are competing for podiums. I'm not saying this is the best car out there. It might not be even in the top 3. But I think its a significant improvement from last year, a car that will give Hamilton and Rosberg a chance to fight for positions and maybe even wins later on in the season.

Given that Button is saying the MP4-28 is (at the moment at least), not as good as the -27, and there's a pretty strong hint there that he prefers the W04, I'd say we can expect the Merc to be at least up there with the McLaren. To me, then the only question is where are RBR and Lotus.

Why is the F138 out of the equation?

Because it looks (at least to my eye), a little bit behind McLaren even at the moment.

I think the F138 is up there with the rest, not going to get to hyped up over the W04. As Lewis has said they have a good base and working to upgrade it. Though what i do know they have improved the car from Jerez to Barcelona in a very short space of time which is good for the team.

I believe Lewis has given the team that shot in the arm to gain the next step and coming from mclaren he knows what a good car should be and how to focus on improving areas around the car that seem to fail etc etc

Before the best time, Hamilton also set a 1:20:8 on mediums. Very impressive.

Anyone else feels that there is yet more faux bodywork left to come off of the coke bottle?

Where other big teams have flexible coverings for where the suspension arms protrude from the bodywork of the car, Mercedes still have gaping holes that are probably going to be doing nothing good for aero.

I have a feeling that there is some slimmer bodywork underneath waiting to be shown.

W04 definitely running more rake than the Mclaren. The front wing angle makes it apparent.

Did Lewis Hamilton just go from the craziest man in F1 to the most brilliant as of this morning?

Recently I thought Button had made one of the best career choices in recent years, but if the car really is as quick as it appears, Hamilton may just top that.

Looks like it wasn't just some driving technique that he learned from Button then...
