Mercedes AMG F1 W04

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I agree that his arrival with the team seems to have given them all lift after the troubles they had last year, sometimes that's all it takes, everyone gives an extra 5% and the pace eventually comes. He seems happier too.

I've just heard on Sky that after all the wet running on Thurs & Fri Mercedes had loads of soft tyres left so they just bolted on set after set this morning, no surprise then that Lewis is going to push hard, the other teams are keeping their powder dry though so its' still hard to tell. This afternoons long run pace looks consistent though.

Looks like it wasn't just some driving technique that he learned from Button then...
Ironically Button made the switch from the same team (back then Brawn).

There were picture of new parts arriving today but it's unclear if Lewis will get to test the whole package, in fact he alluded to this in his interview.

Looks like Nico will get most time with the new parts.

:| A slight whiff of Eau de fanboi, but very subtle. Hamilton is new to the team. The car was designed and built without him and probably Rosberg as well. Drivers give feedback on the finished product: they don't design products. I doubt Rosberg or Hamilton have ever designed a Coanda exhaust or have a preference for a pull-rod suspension.

I agree that he might've provided a morale boost to the team and that his feedback will be helpful this season. :| I can't ignore the fact that Mercedes have stacked their team with brilliant technical minds and upgraded the infrastructure. 8)

That seems to be the case. As it produced less downforce they would be terrible in the corners and slower overall. I also think the exhaust blowing effect has something to do with it. Looking at the Red Bull, Lotus and now Williams with their ramp exhaust it is obvious the Mercedes and Renault engines produces different blowing effects and as we all know that the Mercedes consumes more fuel they could be pumping large volumes of exhaust gases for even more downforce, thus this wing which gives even more straight line speed...
The reason they had a small RW flap and no mokey seat is that they are doing setup work on Melbourne spec car already (Australia being a lower to medium setup race), as Lewis suggested at this interview: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula-one/21625676
