Mercedes AMG F1 W04

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Also, I can't see any difference on that front wing... I guess they must be doing a control run.
FW is the same, they only put back the cameras in front of the suspension

Are they not missing something here? All other teams has a wall of those tubes but this looks more like a cross.

edit: it´s not even a cross, it´s just three horizontal lines of tubes.

I think that sensor array is carrying a
couple of anemometers (the things that look like little plane engines) as well as a perimeter of pitot tubes.

I heard on Sky Sports F1 that a lot of the updates are hard to see, Mercedes employee: "The W04 is like a girl that doesn't give up her secrets easiy." :) I assume they are referring to mechanical upgrades and an effective DRD.

EDIT: Beat me to it^

I wonder if they will introduce a RB-exhaust, Brawn said they had one in the CFD program.
Might be too late now to introduce upgrades of that size.

Via someone else, not my work, etc...
Surprised by MGP's almost neat approach to map the flow field behind the front tyre. My thought is: you don't want to change the flow field by introducing hardware into the area you want to measure; especially when it's something as vulnerable as the wake of a turning wheel. I'm sure the approach to put anything there with struts and things thicker than that which you want to measure does not make much sense, as all you will be able to correlate is how that crude device influenced the situation. But, what does that tell you about the minute things you have erased by introducing such a device into your experiment?

Maybe I'm wrong, but to me the solution is PIV and nothing else.

So, you place a deploying device at the front of the car plus a camera array, all synchronized, and you will get the info needed - clean - plus the wind influence. Everything, including exhaust temps, brake temps, etc, will show up, and you have the chance to really correlate to your wind tunnel data.

Use an IR camera for that matter.

This is assuming the author of that passage actually knows what Mercedes were looking for in any kind of specific way.

He might, but he might not.
